Title: Assistant Professor, Medical Laboratory Technology (Accelerated Program)

Unit: Full-Time MCCC Day Faculty

Department: Medical Laboratory Technology, Health Division

Reports to: Dean of Health

General Summary: The Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Technology is a full-time faculty position responsible for providing instruction and academic support within the accelerated Medical Laboratory Technology program. This position teaches asynchronous online didactic courses and provides in-person laboratory instruction during evening and weekend hours.

The faculty member supports student learning, maintains instructional quality aligned with NAACLS accreditation expectations, collaborates with program faculty, and contributes to student success and institutional initiatives while fulfilling all contractual faculty responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the accelerated Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Deliver asynchronous online instruction using the college's learning management system and instructional technologies.
  • Provide evening and weekend laboratory instruction, demonstrations, and competency evaluation.
  • Prepare course materials, assessments, and instructional resources aligned with course outcomes and program competencies.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on coursework, laboratory skills, and assessments.
  • Maintain required office hours and communication with students.

Curriculum and Assessment Responsibilities

  • Develop and update course materials that align with program learning outcomes and accreditation expectations.
  • Participate in program assessment activities including review of student outcomes and learning effectiveness.
  • Utilize assessment data to improve instructional effectiveness and student success.
  • Collaborate with faculty in curriculum planning, sequencing, and evaluation.
  • Maintain instructional documentation required for accreditation and program review.

Student Support and Engagement

  • Provide academic advising and guidance to students within the program.
  • Support student retention and success initiatives.
  • Maintain a learning environment that reflects inclusive teaching practices and respect for diverse student populations.
  • Mentor students in professional conduct, laboratory practices, and workforce readiness.

College and Program Participation

  • Participate in departmental meetings and collaborative faculty activities.
  • Engage in institutional governance and college service consistent with contractual expectations.
  • Participate in accreditation preparation and program review activities.
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts where appropriate.
  • Maintain professional development and continuing education relevant to medical laboratory science and teaching practice.

Working Conditions

  • Instruction includes asynchronous online teaching and in-person laboratory instruction.
  • Evening and weekend teaching assignments are required.
  • Work occurs in classroom, laboratory, and online environments.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Current ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
  • Minimum of two years of professional laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated teaching, training, or instructional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in Medical Laboratory Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science programs.
  • Experience with online or hybrid instruction.
  • Familiarity with NAACLS accreditation standards and program assessment practices.
  • Experience teaching in one or more of the following areas:
    • Hematology
    • Clinical Chemistry
    • Microbiology
    • Immunohematology
    • Urinalysis and Body Fluids
    • Serology/Immunology
  • Experience working in community college settings

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range: Faculty members within the Medical Laboratory Technology Department are hired at Column H on the MCCC Salary Grid with a starting salary of $77,865; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
