Job Summary: The Library Services Supervisor – Creative & Connected Learning is an innovative professional who continues the Library's reputation as a leader in informal, out-of-school learning and in the community's efforts to re-make learning. Building on the success of our digital equity efforts, the Library Services Supervisor – Creative & Connected Learning works with Children’s and Teen Services staff from across the Library to support children’s and teens’ personal interests, leverage supportive relationships and connect to opportunities. They actively participate as a member of peer and leadership groups to effect change, implement strategies and contribute to the long- and short-range direction of the Library.
Working under the direction of the Library Administrator of Children’s and Teen Services, the Library Services Supervisor – Creative & Connected Learning represents CLP during engagement with the community as a key partner in supporting experiential and connected learning for youth. They will act as project manager of creative learning programs by providing free access to digital media and encourage creativity and collaboration across Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s 18 neighborhood locations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in serving diverse communities and leading staff in design, execution and evaluation of innovative and community-oriented services. The Library Services Supervisor should be flexible and cooperative in creating and maintaining partnerships. They should also be accomplished in, and comfortable with, giving formal and informal presentations in their area of expertise. They will work with internal and external library stakeholders to develop a vision for and support quality hands-on, technology-supported learning services and programs across the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

Responsibilities:
- Understanding, advocating for and engaging with children, teens and caregivers and building community through physical and virtual means;
- Managing Library programs and experiences that serve children and teens, caregivers and formal and informal educators; providing expertise on creative and connected learning, media mentorship, and emerging creative and educational technologies;
- Overseeing and managing grants and special funds targeted to Creative & Connected Learning;
- Representing the Library in the community, especially within the Remake Learning Network and the informal learning community by participating in related local, regional and state-wide initiatives; building working relationships with informal learning stakeholders and creating partnerships to ensure the Library reaches customers who might be most affected by a lack of access to after-school programs, creative technologies or enrichment activities;
- Staying abreast of best practices in out-of-school learning and theory and then developing the skills and abilities of staff related to these best practices;
- Supervising select staff in the Office of Programmatic Services;
- Developing skills and abilities of staff related to creative and connected learning and mentorship through coaching, learning opportunities, building and extending trust, and empowering staff to work to the top of their classifications to achieve the Library’s goals;
- Providing leadership and participating in system-wide activities, such as committees and project teams, and modeling behaviors in customer-focused service, self-directed learning, strategic thinking and planning, and personal accountability;
- Evaluating the success of these efforts and continuously improving programs, services and staff to respond to changing needs through data collection and analysis; and generating and sharing the vision of a future-focused library.

- Learn, competently use, and demonstrate software and technology in all forms;
- Act as an organizational leader regarding hands-on, interest-based learning, media mentorship, and mentorship underpinned by creative and educational technology for children and teens;
- Design library experiences, programs and services for children, teens, caregivers and formal and informal educators, with a focus on different modes of learning, including connected learning and self-directed learning; these should seek to eliminate gaps in inequitable outcomes for youth of color and all Pittsburgh youth facing inequities;
- Oversee the work and teams/staff responsible for the Teen Media Awards and Labs Skills Intensives and the Library’s various kits--which include teen Labs kits, children’s STEAM kits and TASKits;
- Continuously reimagine these services and other areas of responsibility to support evolving community and youth needs and interests;
- Develop outreach experiences and creative writing opportunities for teens that lead to robust, city-based participation in the annual Ralph Munn Creative Writing competition;
- Supervise select staff in the Office of Programs & Partnerships;
- Continually identify opportunities for, and lead, staff development along issues of connected learning, media mentorship and hands-on, technology-supported experiences, learning and programming;
- Understand and model the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh brand and mission every day – representing the Library in the community, especially within the Remake Learning Network and the informal learning community; build relationships and create partnerships;
- Collaborate with the LSS - School Partnerships to build bridges to Pittsburgh Public Schools’ student participation in CLP initiatives, programs and services;
- Communicate with the OPS Coordinators and Development in order to write, manage and report on large-scale, multi-year grants and special projects;
- Communicate with eiNetwork and CLP IT to determine best practices for addressing customer privacy, data and responsible use of educational technology;
- Work across CLP locations and departments to support lifelong learning, children’s and teens’ personal interests and creativity; build a continuum between children’s and teen services that leads into adult job and career opportunities;
- Give both formal and informal presentations to colleagues, stakeholders and others on their area of expertise;
- Evaluate these efforts and library service through data collection and analysis;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited university; candidates with a Master’s in Education may be considered;
- Three years of related experience and increasing responsibility in a public library or educational setting, including demonstrated leadership;
- Significant experience working directly with children and teens in a public library, out of school time or educational setting;
- Significant project management experience, including leadership of work teams and supporting and coaching staff;
- Relevant experience in service design, coordination and evaluation/measurement of services supporting creative and connected learning and the use of creative technology;
- Ability to work full-time hours, plus extended hours as needed;
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (or ability to obtain in reasonable time) and access to a vehicle needed occasionally, depending on responsibilities.
