About This Position

Fitness Coach

Salary Range: $63K + 40% commission on personal training sessions and up to a $4k annual performance bonus.

Location: Chicago, IL (East Loop). We'll share specific details as soon as we can!
Work Hours: Monday - Friday with scheduling flexibility required between the hours 6am-2pm, 7am -3pm or 11am-7pm.
Reports to: Wellness Program Manager

Your Mission:
Your mission is to deliver high quality personal training and group fitness experiences while supporting the daily operations of the wellness center. You provide professional, hospitality driven service to members, contribute to revenue and engagement goals, and help ensure the fitness center operates smoothly, cleanly, and consistently. Through strong relationships and active engagement, you support a welcoming environment that motivates members and builds community.

You had built strong relationships with clients, contributed consistently to training and membership revenue, and helped maintain a clean, well run fitness environment. You were known as a reliable, positive presence who delivered great sessions and elevated the overall member experience.

Outcomes Youll Deliver:
  • Fitness Center Operations: Support the day to day operations of the fitness center, including opening and closing procedures, equipment care, towel and laundry management, and restocking locker room supplies. Ensure the space remains clean, safe, and welcoming at all times.
  • Personalized Coaching & Revenue: Conduct 10-15 tailored personal or small group training sessions weekly. You'll focus on retaining current clients and converting new members through complimentary sessions to meet or exceed our team's annual personal training revenue goal.
  • Engaging Group Fitness: Plan and lead a minimum of four safe and effective group exercise classes per week, maintaining a 60% attendance rate or higher. Be creative with specialty classes to help maintain a high membership satisfaction and engagement.
  • Exceptional Member Experience: Create a welcoming, fun, and engaging atmosphere. Greet all members with enthusiasm and actively listen and respond to all feedback with a solutions-oriented approach, following up within 1 business day.
  • Membership Growth: Support the team in reaching your collective annual membership goal by confidently leading prospective member tours, effectively managing payments for memberships and/or training packages, and assisting your team with marketing and promotional events. Proactively identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell services.
  • Revenue & Sales Support: Support fitness center revenue and engagement goals by managing payments for memberships, training sessions, and packages. Identify opportunities to upsell or cross sell services while maintaining a member first approach. Contribute consistently to monthly revenue targets through client engagement.
  • Tours & Leasing Support: Support fitness center tours and leasing conversations by clearly communicating Playbook’s wellness offerings and private services to prospective tenants and partners.
Requirements:
  • 2+ years of experience as a Personal Trainer, delivering high quality 1 on 1 training
  • 2+ years of experience as a Group Fitness Instructor, delivering small group sessions/group classes.
  • Associates or Bachelor degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology preferred but not required.
  • Required Personal Training certification from a national organization (NSCA, NASM, ACE). Current CPR and First Aid Certifications, plus Group Fitness certification(s).
  • Comfort supporting sales conversations related to memberships and training packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a hospitality driven approach to service.
  • Ability to support physical demands of the role, including lifting equipment and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfort working a flexible schedule that may include early mornings or evenings.
  • Nice to have: Comfort & certification in teaching diverse group fitness formats and levels (ex. pilates, yoga) and previous experience executing successful wellness and promotional events.

  • Revenue Awareness: You had supported revenue goals through client retention, session sales, and thoughtful upselling when appropriate.
  • Team Collaboration: You had worked effectively with managers and teammates, communicated clearly, and contributed positively to the overall wellness team.
