About This Position
Serves as a key member of the Kansas Farm Bureau team supporting County Farm Bureaus in strengthening local programming and sustaining a vibrant, grassroots organizational structure. Builds and maintains strong relationships with County Farm Bureau boards, producers, agricultural businesses, community organizations, and elected officials to support membership growth and foster strategic partnerships that benefit agriculture and rural communities. Oversees issues and initiatives and manages contract county staff within the assigned district. Also handles emerging priorities as directed by the supervisor or organizational leadership.
This position is a full-time remote position. Candidate must reside in Kansas within 30 miles of the assigned district serving the following ten Kansas counties: Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Shawnee, and Wyandotte. Moderate travel within the area will be required and a company vehicle provided.
Requirements:- Supports, guides, and strengthens county Farm Bureau programs, services, and activities.
- Builds strategic relationships with producers, elected officials, businesses, and community leaders to ensure Kansas Farm Bureau remains a relevant and impactful presence within the district and statewide.
- Attends County Farm Bureau Board meetings, providing training and support as needed.
- Supervises assigned contracted county Farm Bureau staff as assigned.
- Conducts monthly check-ins with direct reports to support development, performance, and engagement.
- Participates in the annual review process for all direct reports, including evaluation and feedback.
- Coordinates and implements a contract staff professional development day.
- Ensures clear and consistent communication of Kansas Farm Bureau priorities to strengthen member engagement and support county operations.
- Provides regular updates on county activities, accomplishments, and emerging challenges.
- Identifies, encourages, trains, and motivates leaders to participate in county and state Farm Bureau initiatives.
- Monitors local conditions and membership trends; supports membership recruitment and retention efforts.
- Assists county Farm Bureau leaders with financial management and administrative responsibilities within their independent, non-profit county organizations.
- Represents Farm Bureau policy positions and programs at the local level while empowering members and counties to engage appropriately in key issues.
- Serves as a resource person for county Farm Bureau leaders on basic employment and personnel matters.
- Conducts onboarding and provides ongoing support for new county staff; may provide temporary office assistance when staffing gaps occur.
- Leads or supports district and regional events, training, and activities as needed.
- Participates in state-level committees or working groups as assigned.
- Assists with legislative affairs, membership initiatives, training and education efforts, and Kansas Farm Bureau programs as required.
- Manages assigned responsibilities in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with five years’ experience in business, program management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of two years’ experience supervising staff and providing team leadership.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to act in alignment with the organization’s mission, philosophy, and strategic direction.
- Ability to remain informed about agricultural industry trends and applicable government regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrate high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Knowledge of the agricultural industry is strongly preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (subject to a motor vehicle report).
- Compliance with all organizational policies related to the use, care, and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
- Responsible for monthly reporting of vehicle mileage, maintenance, and related documentation.
- Must reside in Kansas and within 30 miles of the area served (includes the following counties: Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Shawnee, and Wyandotte).
Travel
- Moderate travel required.
Authority
- Provides support to all county Farm Bureaus located in assigned district. Supervises contract county staff as assigned.
Relationships
- Collaborates with Kansas Farm Bureau staff to promote the organization and support shared goals.
- Works closely with FBFS District Managers to advance membership efforts and address issues as they arise.
- Serves as a local contact for elected officials, businesses, and community leaders on behalf of Kansas Farm Bureau.
- Engages across divisions to support projects, programs, and organizational initiatives.
- Maintains open communication with all Kansas Farm Bureau employees and contributes as a cooperative, team-oriented staff member.
Physical Requirements
Requires ability to operate voice telephone, computer, and other office equipment. Requires in-state, out-of-state, and overnight travel. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely for travel within the district. Other current office activities include walking, standing, and sitting. Must be able to work outside of normal office hours. Requires the ability to load and unload materials. Regular attendance (as defined by the Employee Handbook) is a function of the job.
