The VP, R&D Pipeline & Project Management will lead the strategic planning, governance, and execution of a global R&D portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and therapeutic area strategies. This role drives transformation initiatives to optimize R&D operations, systems, and processes while enhancing efficiency, decision-making quality, and cross-functional collaboration. You will partner with senior leaders across R&D, Commercial, Medical, and FP&A to support data-driven prioritization and resource allocation, mitigating risks across programs. The position involves leading complex transformation projects, implementing scalable digital solutions, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-level decisions, shape long-term strategic objectives, and enhance pipeline performance for innovative therapeutics.

Accountabilities:
  • Oversee the integrated R&D pipeline strategy, aligning priorities, resources, and risk-based decision-making to support corporate objectives
  • Lead pipeline governance and portfolio review processes, ensuring stage-gate readiness, decision cadence, and evidence-based prioritization
  • Drive R&D transformation initiatives, including process optimization, digital system implementation, and operational efficiency improvements
  • Define and enforce standardized project and portfolio management practices across programs, including planning, risk management, and reporting
  • Monitor pipeline performance using analytics, identifying interventions to mitigate risks and enhance delivery
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment, engaging stakeholders to ensure successful execution of complex R&D initiatives
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, communicating insights, progress, and recommendations for investment and resourcing

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or related discipline required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) strongly preferred
  • Extensive experience in global biopharma/biotech R&D, including portfolio and project leadership, transformation, and governance
  • Proven ability to execute enterprise-wide strategies that drive long-term business growth and functional excellence
  • Strong leadership skills, including influencing and mobilizing matrixed teams and building alignment across complex organizations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex data and strategy to executives and large groups
  • Lean/Six Sigma or equivalent process improvement certification preferred
  • Analytical mindset with experience in pipeline analytics, resource optimization, and risk management
