IT Intern - Summer 2026 at Stowers Machinery Corporation – Knoxville, Tennessee

Position Scope

The IT Intern provides hands on support to the Stowers Machinery IT department while gaining real world experience in technical support, systems administration, and business applications. This role assists with troubleshooting, documentation, hardware setup, and project work under the guidance of IT staff.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• Basic understanding of computers, operating systems, and common software applications.
• Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and processes.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with IT team members.

Preferred Qualification(s)

• Enrollment in a college program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, or a similar field.
• Familiarity with basic troubleshooting, networking concepts, or hardware setup.

Education Requirements

• Active enrollment in a college or university program is required.
• Coursework in IT, computer systems, or related fields preferred.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist with troubleshooting user issues related to hardware, software, access, and connectivity.
• Support device setup, imaging, configuration, and deployment for new or existing employees.
• Help maintain IT documentation, inventory records, and support procedures.
• Assist with onboarding tasks such as account setup, equipment preparation, and system orientation.
• Participate in IT projects, including upgrades, rollouts, and system improvements.
• Provide basic support for applications, printers, mobile devices, and network resources.
• Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff when needed.
• Learn and follow IT best practices, security guidelines, and support workflows.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Represent the IT department professionally when assisting employees.
• Support team initiatives by contributing to documentation and process improvements.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and communicate progress to supervisors.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Previous internship, part time IT work, or volunteer technical experience is helpful but not required.
• Strong problem solving abilities and willingness to ask questions.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to lift and move computer equipment such as monitors, desktops, and peripherals.
• Ability to work in an office environment with extended periods of computer use.
• Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.

Work Environment

• Office based with regular interaction across all departments.
• Occasional travel to branch locations with IT staff for support or project work.
• Exposure to real world IT operations, systems, and support processes.

Most work is conducted in a comfortable office environment but exposure to site conditions may also occur. Personal protective equipment must be worn in areas as required. Although the work usually is not considered inherently dangerous, employees must be careful while performing onsite services.
