St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Position Overview and Responsibilities
St. John’s seeks to hire a part-time Latin teacher to teach three sections of middle school Latin. One of the courses is a co-taught class with a religious studies teacher on the history, culture, and stories found in the Gospels and the Roman Empire. The ideal candidate would be able to teach all levels of Latin language, literature, and culture, while using technology as a vehicle for learning gains. We are particularly interested in candidates experienced with the ACL Standards for Classical Language Learning and familiar with the use of communicative and comprehensible Latin language teaching methods in support of traditional reading ability.

Can collaboratively develop curricula and implement engaging lessons that incorporate a range of authentic learning approaches in the target language with varied content to both support and challenge diverse learners to reach their fullest potential.
- Communication Skills: Communicates consistently and effectively with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Inclusive Mindset: Commitment to multiculturalism and diversity that is manifested in classroom practice, communication, and curricular decisions.
- Student-Centeredness: Must display a deep appreciation for student-centered, engaging, and innovative teaching practices. Thrives as a dual-purpose instructor – teaching academic content, but also focusing on the whole student – building enduring personal relationships and helping them find teachable moments related to habits of mind and character.
- Collegiality: Each teacher regularly collaborates with colleagues concerning best practice in an effort to meet the learning needs of all students.

Education and Experience
- A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching experience (or applicable practicum experience).
- A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Latin education and/or Latin language, literature, and culture.
- Fluency in the Latin language is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
