About This Position

II. Job Summary:

The Workforce Coach will work directly with job seekers to assist with career exploration, work readiness, educational and career guidance individually and in groups. The Workforce Coach will deliver assessment services, employment planning, job placement and job retention services; conduct case note documentation and data entry, and other administrative tasks to ensure compliance with agency/funder guidelines; and maintain effective outcomes-driven relationships with participants and stakeholders. The Workforce Program is aimed to reduce crime, violence and unemployment in Minneapolis. The Workforce Coach has high participant contact and engagement through planning and facilitation workshops, and the direct delivery of program services and activities.

III. Core Job Functions:

The Workforce Coach performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct the recruitment, orientation, intake, assessment and individual employment plan development of program participants.
  • Provide career coaching and case management services to a caseload of assigned participants, assisting them to remove barriers that interfere with obtaining employment. Provide ongoing support and supportive services.
  • Assess participants’ skills, interests, and aptitudes by administering relevant testing and inventory assessments.
  • Perform job retention activities, career advancement services and connect participants to training programs and educational opportunities as needed. Monitor accountability of participants ensuring program regulations and contract requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes on all participant contacts and document activities. Work effectively and efficiently in multiple internal and external databases. Maintain records that meet agency funder expectations and agency requirements.
  • Occasionally transport participants to training, job interviews, or other service-related areas based on needs.
  • Advising participants on how to resolve workplace related conflicts with co-workers or supervisors.
  • Perform any other tasks and duties necessary in order for the agency to meet its mission.

IV. Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • BA in human services, psychology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant case management, employment, job development and/or vocational counseling work experience.
  • GCDF certification preferred, must obtain within one year of employment
  • Experience working with underserved populations from various backgrounds and cultures and conducting community outreach.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and database applications, Workforce One is preferred.

Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff reflect significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, socio-economic status, nationality and religion.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.

Understanding of barriers created by poverty and racism.
Ability to lead and facilitate group meetings and workshops, orientations, and trainings.

Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently

Knowledge of counseling methodologies.

Knowledge of current workforce and labor market trends, job development practices, and local companies and community organizations throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area for the purpose of job placements and internship site development.

Knowledge of employment assessments, career laddering, MFIP/ SNAP, and educational support services.

Ability to travel throughout the metro area

Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable, insured transportation, and the ability to meet agency’s driving requirements including proof of insurance is preferred.

**Some Workforce Coach roles may require fluency in multiple languages

V. Working Conditions and Environment:

ECTC: Incumbent will have a private office/designated workspace in a typical office environment. The building is multiple floors and fully accessible and is smoke-free. Work will include regular local travel. Working hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8 am-5:00 pm, but will include occasional evening and weekend hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, sometimes loud.
