Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Mid-level Vulnerability & Patch Management Engineer to join their team in Washington, DC. This role is a critical, high-visibility position supporting a government contract at the Pentagon.
The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining compliance, security, and operational integrity of Windows and Linux systems through patching, configuration, and troubleshooting in a complex, multi-layered network environment.
As part of this role, you will work closely with technical leads and customers, implementing cybersecurity controls, IT infrastructure management, and resource monitoring. Key Responsibilities:
- Engineer and maintain Windows and Linux operating systems to meet compliance requirements.
- Install, configure, and tune operating systems, third-party applications, and security patches.
- Troubleshoot operating systems, applications, and databases in a multi-layered network.
- Implement cybersecurity controls, manage IT infrastructure, and set up resource monitoring and alerting.
- Work with Storage Area Networks (SAN), enterprise backup solutions, and fault-tolerant technologies.
- Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, VBScript, Perl, etc.) for patching and system management.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, technical leads, and end-users to define remediation plans and compliance strategies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field OR 4-7 years of IT experience.
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
- CASP
- CCNP
- CISA
- CISM
- CISSP
- Active Top-Secret Clearance required.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- 3-4+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) / SCCM.
- Proven expertise in patch management operations, system hardening, and compliance enforcement.
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux system administration and security configurations.
- Hands-on experience in automated patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance tracking.
- Familiarity with virtualization, middleware, and distributed computing environments.
- Experience with networking concepts, basic routing, and IT infrastructure management.
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, TK, Perl, VBScript, etc.) for administrative automation.
- Experience working with SAN, enterprise backup solutions, and fault-tolerant systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of experience in IT security, vulnerability management, and system administration.
- Experience with government contracts or defense-related IT infrastructure.
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards.
