Position Summary
- Is accountable for the operation of the section(s) supervised across the SJ/C system ensuring result comparability between all testing sites. As a result of this responsibility, may be contacted on a 24-hour basis for professional opinions. Optimizes department(s) workflow to achieve acceptable quality standards, recognizing weak areas and implementing appropriate resolutions. Supervise and trains technical and/or non-technical laboratory personnel and assign areas/shifts. Develop, implements, and monitors new policies and processes ensuring universal platforms across the system as much as possible. Subject matter expert of laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators that are age dependent. Oversees proficiency testing program for supervised sections. Responsible for training personnel and departmental inventory and ordering. Must stay abreast of advancements in his/her field. Is responsible for recognizing and implementing additional services to his/her department through collaboration with the Manager/Director, as trends in technology, instrumentation and physician ordering patterns suggest the need. Must set goals and objectives for the department. Evaluates supervised personnel. Assumes responsibility of Director and Operations Manager in their absence. Will perform testing. Travel will be required to each testing site.

- Minimum of four years experience- Required
- 5-7 Years - Preferred

License & Certification
- National Certification - Required
- Currently registered or registry eligible by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent - Required
- Meets CLIA, State, and accreditation requirements as Technical Supervisor for Laboratory as applicable - Preferred

Core Job Functions
- Optimizes department(s) to achieve acceptable quality standards, recognizing weak areas and implementing appropriate resolutions. Supervise technical and/or non-technical laboratory personnel and assign areas/shifts. Develop, implements, and monitors new policies and processes. Adapts readily to changes in workload and stressful situations, demonstrating confident and supportive behavior. Shows initiative to know where the focus is needed.
- Understands the standards for Laboratory and ensures compliance. Works with technical team leaders to maintain compliance.
- Develop Quality Metrics for the collection, documentation and reporting of quality assessment and improvement data; extracts pertinent information from quality assessment and improvement studies, initiates corrective action plans, and re-monitors results to ensure improvement. Notifies appropriate personnel of on-going problems and provides suggestions and solutions to problems. Works alongside technical team leads to assure improvement.
- Selects equipment, layout and design to effectively perform testing in a manner that is efficient and productive. Streamline processes to prevent waste.
- Maintains appropriate records in accordance with guidelines of regulatory agencies. Collaborates with departmental team leaders on unmet performance standards, directing alternate procedures and reviews at appropriate interval for compliance.
