POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs phlebotomy, EKG, point of care of waived testing. Enters and retrieves patient information, demographics and test results. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and education experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives. Performs selected skills: including rooming patient, assisting with treatments and procedures.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Phlebotomy certification preferred. Bi-Annual CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. Knowledge of medical terminology and a variety of laboratory techniques. Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly communicate with patients, medical staff and the public. Computer experience required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Explains specimen collection procedures to patients and performs selected duties which may include Venipuncture and capillary puncture, selected specimen collection and testing, EKG’s and stress EKG’s utilizing proper technique and following department protocols.

Proper collection preparation labeling and transportation of specimens per department procedures.

Maintains required department logs including but not limited to refrigerator, eye wash station, draw chair and all lab quality control logs.

Assists in department orientation and training of new staff.

Monitors and maintains adequate clinical and office supplies and equipment maintaining a neat, clean and appropriately stocked environment.

Utilizes Epic to retrieve, release, result and batch specimens. Cleans and disinfects all work areas and equipment according to established department guidelines

Performs general clerical and clinical duties for department.
