SENIOR MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (SUPPORT SERVICES) at Bermuda Hospital – Paget

The Senior Technologist directs the planning, coordination and supervising of all functions within the General Laboratory including testing, staff training, inventory control and equipment maintenance. The Senior Technologist develops implements and revises policies and procedures according to the established departmental protocol.

Key responsibilities include:

• assisting the Laboratory Management Team in monitoring the operations for the designated area
• assisting Pathologists in the development and implementation of clinical tests
• supervising and assigning work to support staff
• assisting with the training and orientation of new technical staff and visiting students
• monitoring employee performances and evaluations
• ensuring proper instrument and equipment operation, troubleshoots and performs minor repair on equipment
• preparing monthly statistical reports of tests
• maintaining inventory and requisition of supplies for designated area
• keeps abreast of new developments in technology and equipment

Qualifications &/ Registration required:

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Higher National Certificate, Diploma in Medical Technology or equivalent
• Five (5) years post graduate experience in a medical laboratory
• Registration with a professional licensing body in medical technology such as A.S.C.P. or equivalent
• Must be able to register with the Council for Allied Health Professions
• Diploma in Supervisory Management preferred or must be completed after appointment

Schedule: Participates in a shift rotation to include weekends and public holidays. Hours of work may be adjusted to meet the changing demands on the Pathology services required.

Salary Grade: $93,566.53 (BP28-30)
