Position Summary:
The LLSS Department invitesapplications for an Assistant Professor position tobecome part of the Educational Thought andSociocultural Studies (ETSS) program. The candidate's research and teachingexperience will reflect preparation in educational foundations, and indicate a specializationin Black/Africana Studies in education, as well as familiarity with CriticalRace Theory, Intersectionality, and Globalization Education.

Thesuccessful candidate will have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. inEducational Foundations, Black/Africana Studies, or related fields before Fall2026. The successful candidate will have a reduced course load for two years, beforeassuming a full course load (2/2) at the undergraduate and graduate levels,including educational foundations content courses (e.g., Decolonial Thinking,Feminist Epistemologies, Paulo Freire, Critical Race Theory, Globalization andEducation, Sociology of Education), LLSS core curriculum (e.g., Seminar inEducational Studies and Dissertation Seminar), and preservice educatorpreparation courses (e.g., School and Society, Teaching Secondary SocialStudies, and Secondary Social Studies Methods, Foundations of Anti-RacistPedagogy).

1. An earned doctorate in Educational Foundations, Black/Africana Studies or related fields by August 2026.
2. Scholarly evidence of Educational Foundations and Black Studies expertise

PreferredQualifications:

1. Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
2. At least three years of secondary social studies/humanities teaching experience and/or related experiences in U.S. settings or in accredited international schools.
3. Excellence or potential for excellence in scholarly research and publishing in Educational Foundations, Black Studies in education, Secondary Social Studies/Humanities Education, and/or related fields.
4. Robust and current formal academic preparation/advanced study in Educational Foundations and Black/Africana Studies.
5. Excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Thought and Sociocultural Studies and Secondary Social Studies/Humanities Education.
6. Ability or the potential to advise and direct graduate work.
7. Interest in and commitment to a community engaged approach to outreach and collaboration with communities and Indigenous Nations in the Southwest.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
