Position Summary:
The School of Architecture andPlanning at the University of New Mexico is currently accepting applicationsfor one Visiting Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture. Bestconsideration date is December 1, 2025. The position will begin in January 2026. Thisis a non-tenure track temporary appointment, renewable up to three years.

The Position:
The School of Architecture and Planning welcomes candidates with teaching excellence in thefield of Landscape Architecture technical courses, such as Grading andDrainage, AutoCAD for landscape architecture, Graphic Representation, and GIS.The successful candidate will have scholarship and/or experience in the relatedtechnical fields of civil engineering or equivalent as relates to grading anddrainage and be equipped to teach mixed and separate courses with undergraduateand graduate students. The candidate will be charged with creating an advancedtrack for student explorations in technical aspects of landscape architecturesuch as modeling, 3D printing, and sensors. The candidate will alsoserve on department and school committees and participate in other department,school, and university activities. Our school thrives when our faculty broadensour perspectives and brings new conversations to our community. Areas ofexpertise may include grading and drainage, AutoCad for Landscape Architecture,and GIS, combined with a poetics of landscape analysis.

The School of Architecture + Planning:
The UNM School of Architecture and Planning teaches and inspires landscape architectsto respond critically to the urgencies of the present and the promises of amore sustainable and equitable future. The department supports the work of ouraward-winning faculty, students, and scholars to investigate the systems andsocial forces that define sustainable environments at the highest levels ofacademia and practice. UNM Landscape Architecture offers an accessible andaffordable public landscape architectural education. The Department ofLandscape Architecture is housed in the award-winning George Pearl Hall,designed by architect Antoine Predock, along with the departments of Architectureand Community and Regional Planning, and graduate programs in HistoricPreservation and Regionalism. The spacious facilities have the latest designand fabrication tools, including digital fabrication and conventional wood andmetal shops. The Department of Landscape Architecture offers a Bachelor ofLandscape Architecture, for which we seek accreditation in the coming twoyears, and a professionally accredited Master of Landscape Architecture. Inaddition to these degree programs, The School of Architecture and Planning alsohosts three community-focused research centers: The Design and PlanningAssistance Center (DPAC), Research Center for Raza Planning (RCRP), and theIndigenous Design + Planning Institute (iD+Pi).

  • A Master of Landscape Architecture degree
  • Ability to Teach, Teaching Experience, or Teaching Training at the Undergraduate and Master Levels

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A demonstrated record of teaching excellence in the field of landscape architecture technical courses, such as Grading and Drainage, AutoCAD for landscape architecture, Graphic Representation, and GIS.
  • Scholarship and/or experience in the related technical fields of civil engineering or equivalent as relates to grading and drainage.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
  • Capability of contributing to academic discourse and scholarship on pedagogy, teaching methods, as relates to technical courses.
  • Ability to advise and direct graduate work.
