Oncology Protocol Registered Nurse

  • Position Summary
    • Responsible for care coordination of oncology infusion patients by working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the patient is ready to begin treatment prior to arriving to the treatment clinic. This role requires excellent communication and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Maintains ASCO & ONS standards as well as regulatory and accreditation standards in their daily practice. Maintains conflict/complaint resolution within practice and as per system policies.

  • Experience
    • 1 - 2 Years Nursing - Required
    • 1 - 2 Years Case Management/Navigation - Preferred
    • 1 - 2 Years Oncology Infusion Nursing - Preferred
  • License & Certification
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • Chemotherapy Biotherapy course - Required
    • Oncology Certification - Preferred
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Preferred
  • Core Job Functions
    • Responsible for care coordination of oncology infusion patients by working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the patient is ready to begin treatment prior to arriving to the treatment clinic. Conduct a comprehensive review of scheduled oncology infusion patients, preferably working out 72 hours in advance. This review facilitates continuum of care which includes review of labs, consents, required tests/scans per treatment protocols, review of provider orders for completeness and compliance within applicable standards and requirements, and responsible for assisting and monitoring authorizations for treatment.
    • Exhibits excellent communication, organization, multi-tasking capabilities as well as accurate electronic documentation related to patient care. Openly communicate with patients/families to achieve positive patient/family outcomes. Follow up on patient/family/customer complaints in a timely manner.
    • Facilitates proactive and excellent communication within the patient’s multidisciplinary team, which includes but is not limited to, the managing physicians, patients, precertification department, and treatment facilities.
    • Addresses barriers to care through appropriate referrals to applicable supportive care services. Barriers range from psychosocial and educational to transportation and financial. Effectively communicate with managing physicians and oncology leaders of any barriers impacting the delivery of care.
