The Clinical Staff Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients including appropriateness, safety, and efficacy of therapy; entering orders and patient information accurately; verifying that all pharmacy technician-prepared orders are completed accurately prior to release; maintaining security of pharmacy and controlled substances; providing assistance in the orientation and training of Pharmacy Department staff and students; keeping the Pharmacy Manager & Director of Pharmacy apprised of the daily activities of the department; and providing assistance in the operation and maintenance of the Pharmacy Department. Duties include working inpatient units as a decentralized pharmacist to provide patient care and serve as a medication expert. Rotates to cover various centralized and decentralized shifts.

Job Summary:
Sinai Chicago is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Registry Pharmacist to support our inpatient pharmacy team on an as-needed basis. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications to hospitalized patients by providing operational and clinical pharmacy services, including order verification, medication dispensing oversight, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
As a Registry Pharmacist in a teaching hospital environment, you will work closely with pharmacists, technicians, nurses, and providers to maintain continuity of pharmacy services, support safe medication use, and uphold regulatory and quality standards.
This flexible position is ideal for pharmacists seeking hospital experience or supplemental hours while contributing to a collaborative and patient-focused care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Operational Duties Verify, evaluate, and process medication orders in a timely and accurate manner.
Review drug therapy for appropriate indication, dosing, renal/hepatic adjustment, drug interactions, and safety.
Supervise and support medication preparation, dispensing, and distribution processes.
Ensure accuracy and safety of medications stocked in automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Omnicell).
Provide drug information and clinical support to pharmacy staff, nurses, and providers. Assist with sterile and non-sterile compounding oversight in accordance with USP 797 and 800 standards.
Support pharmacy workflow to ensure timely medication availability for patient care.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication-related questions and recommendations.
Clarify medication orders and support safe medication administration practices.
Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to ensure efficient and accurate medication distribution.
Support continuity of pharmacy services during staffing gaps, call-offs, and high-volume periods.
Regulatory, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal pharmacy regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
Maintain accurate documentation of pharmacist interventions and clinical activities in the electronic medical record.
Support medication safety initiatives and adherence to formulary and hospital protocols.
Participate in quality improvement and medication safety efforts as appropriate.
Required Qualifications: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
Current Illinois Pharmacist License in good standing. Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of medication safety principles and inpatient pharmacy workflow.
Experience with EPIC EMR and automated dispensing systems (e.g., Omnicell) preferred.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and clinical judgment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule:
Registry / as-needed position. Flexible scheduling based on operational needs.
May include weekday, evening, weekend, and holiday coverage. No guaranteed minimum hours.
