This role reports directly to the VP Finance and offers broad ownership across accounting, compliance, and finance operations within a lean team structure.

Your Role

The Senior Financial Accountant / Finance Operations Lead will play a key role in managing core accounting processes, supervising a Bookkeeper, coordinating tax compliance across Canada and the U.S,, and helping implement technologies that automate and streamline finance operations.

This role is ideal for a CPA or CPA candidate who enjoys working in a hands-on environment with exposure to both operational accounting and strategic finance initiatives.

You will work closely with the VP Finance on financial reporting, operational finance initiatives, and process improvements as the company continues to grow.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Own and manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain the general ledger and accounting records in accordance with ASPE accounting standards.
  • Supervise and support the Bookkeeper in day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Coordinate Canadian and U.S. corporate tax return preparation with external advisors.
  • Manage sales tax compliance across multiple U.S. states and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Maintain documentation and compliance related to transfer pricing and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage treasury operations, including banking relationships and cash monitoring.
  • Support the VP Finance with annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes.
  • Prepare documentation and coordinate with external auditors and advisors.
  • Identify, implement, and manage financial technologies that automate and streamline finance processes.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting workflows to build scalable finance operations.

Your Qualifications

Must-Have Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. sales tax compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using modern financial tools and AI applications to improve productivity or automate processes.

Highly Valued Skills:

  • Experience working in a SaaS or technology company.
  • Exposure to both Canadian and U.S. tax environments.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and processes.

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in complex multi-entity and cross-border environments.
  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to supervise and support junior accounting staff.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role while contributing to higher-level finance initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with senior leadership and external advisors.
  • Process-improvement mindset with an interest in leveraging financial technologies and automation to increase efficiency.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.
