Job Description
Position Scope: The Rental Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing rental equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety for customers. This role supports Stowers Machinery’s rental division by preparing equipment for delivery, troubleshooting issues, and performing preventive maintenance. The position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Must be familiar with allied equipment such as aerial lifts, forklifts, dump trucks, etc.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose and repair heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualification(s):
- Aerial training
- Experience working with Caterpillar or similar heavy equipment brands.
- Familiarity with rental operations and equipment preparation standards.
- Certifications in equipment repair or maintenance (e.g., ASE, CAT certifications).
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school training or equivalent experience in heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspect rental equipment upon return and prior to delivery to ensure proper operation and safety compliance.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on rental fleet equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and complete necessary repairs.
- Document all service and repair work accurately in the company system.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with rental coordinators and service teams regarding equipment status.
- Assist with loading/unloading equipment when necessary.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- No direct supervisory responsibilities; however, the role requires initiative and accountability in maintaining equipment standards and supporting team operations.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- 2+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance or repair.
- Strong time management skills to meet service deadlines.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Frequent standing, bending, and working in outdoor environments.
- Mental agility to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues under time constraints.
Work Environment:
- Primarily shop-based
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and heavy machinery.
- Requires adherence to strict safety standards and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
