JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Student Wellness and Experience, the Associate Director of Student Activities is responsible for overseeing the overall development and implementation of the University’s programs and activities. The Associate Director of Student Activities supervises the Student Activity Specialist and together they are responsible for creating and supporting a high-quality student life experience for all students at Kentucky State University. The Associate Director creates, implements, and facilitates opportunities for co-curricular learning and student leadership development. The Associate Director of Student Activities will also promote proactive retention activities and student engagement by coordinating. Homecoming, Spring “Mini- Homecoming”, Intramural Sports, and Residential Programming Activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages and supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of co-curricular social, educational, and recreational programs that enhance the quality of campus life.
- Prepares, monitors, and expends multiple budgets that support the operation and maintenance of
- Student Activities.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for Student Activities.
- Oversees implementation of assessment and evaluation of all programs in student life.
- Coordinates regularly scheduled targeted activities for on-campus, off-campus students, international, and nontraditional.
- Monitors the academic success of all student leaders and provides regular reports on such to the Vice
- Provost of Student Affairs.
- Coordinate Homecoming, Spring “Mini- Homecoming”, Intramural Sports, and Residential Programming Activities.
- Direct and fully implement 5 intramural sports by the close of year one with additional sports and teams integrated by year 3.
- Creates and implements recreational programming for several areas of the Student Center and Game Room.
- Primary oversight of the Student Government Association, Royal Court, and Greek Life in collaboration with the Student Activity Specialist.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to supervise and manage diverse groups.
- Ability to work late evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to make decisions supporting the department’s mission and goals.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality.
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
- Ability to establish and maintain an excellent rapport with the student body, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge of program assessment and evaluation,
- Ability to manage multiple budgets.
- Knowledge/experience working with different areas of Campus Life (e.g. programming, KSU
- Homecoming, etc.)
- Understanding/appreciation for working in a vibrantly diverse student and staff community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position does have supervisory responsibility.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or related field.
- Three to five years of related experience, preferably in a university setting
Licensing and Certifications: NA
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Noor very limited physical effort required.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
