About This Position


Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Landscape Services department of the Climate Action, Planning and Development Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Equipment Operator III. Reporting to the Supervisor of Landscape Services, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly, from April 15, 2026, to October 15, 2026.

The Equipment Operator III’s role is to safely and efficiently operate, service, maintain, and repair a variety of turf equipment to ensure quality and uniformity of turf in all RMOW parks and village areas. The Equipment Operator III will safely operate large equipment such as backhoe, loader, dump-truck, Kubota Tractor, Western Star and will operate and maintain push mowers, ride on deck mowers, rototiller, airway and seeding units. The Equipment Operator III will be responsible for other projects involving installing drainage, building silt ponds, interlocking bricks, laying sod, tree planting and pruning and other types of landscaping when needed. The Equipment Operator III will utilize computer systems for ordering supplies, research, correspondence and maintaining accurate records, including equipment maintenance logs and staff training logs.

Qualified candidates will possess a grade 12 diploma, BC Class 5 driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement, 2-3 years of experience in a similar role operating large turf related equipment and leading a crew and overseeing work sites. Applicants have extensive knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in turf management; experience running and maintaining equipment, and working knowledge of grass, overseeding, fertilizing and liming and the ability to train staff on the safe and effective use of turf equipment. Candidates must possess physical strength, stamina and coordination to allow for moderate to heavy outdoor work in all weather conditions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a mechanical aptitude and excellent communication and time management skills, making decisions in the field independently. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace while contributing to a positive environment. The starting wage for this role is $37.05 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract before beginning employment.
