About This Position

Job Summary

Southwind Construction Services LLC, A Quivera Enterprises subsidiary, is seeking an experienced Carpenter. The Carpenter is a construction trades professional who works with construction crews to build, adjust, and repair a range of frameworks in various construction projects. The Carpenter is responsible for layout, installation, repair, finishing, and maintenance of various structures, fixtures, and buildings. Additional duties include designing, cutting, and measuring materials according to requirements. The range of assignments will include formwork, framing and sheathing, millwork, doors and hardware, finishes, and specialties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Layout and assemble formwork for concrete foundations, slab-on-grade, columns, beams, elevated concrete decks, etc.
  • Fit and install window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plump bob, and laser levels.
  • Layout and assemble framed walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, and roofs using wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.
  • Construct and repair architectural millwork and cabinetry including cabinets, shelving, countertops, interior, and exterior trim, soffits, siding, and other casework.
  • Layout, assemble, and repair finishes including gypsum board walls and ceilings, suspended ceilings, soft flooring, ceramic tile, drywall finishing, and painting.
  • Layout, assemble, and repair specialties including toilet partitions, toilet accessories, interior and exterior signage, lockers, and corner guards.
  • Install thermal and moisture protection, including building insulation, caulking and sealants, damp proofing, waterproofing, and shingle roofing.
  • Install metal panel siding, roofing, trim, gutters, and downspouts.
  • Shape and cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels.
  • Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean, safe and secure.
  • Adhere to established safety rules, including PPE requirements. Clean up worksite debris.
  • Ensure all relevant zoning laws, building codes, and workplace safety regulations are followed.
  • Assist supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installation.
  • Troubleshoot construction issues with the project team.

  • Train and mentor incoming and junior personnel in job functions.
  • Maintain good relationships with clients and third parties.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain required federal suitability or background clearance
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, sketches, and shop drawings.
  • Able to perform construction layout using measuring tapes, plumb bob, levels, and layout instruments.
  • Able to inspect and assess the strength, type, and quality of wood and other materials.
  • Able to operate tools, machines, and operating equipment.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good math and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Professional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Accurate and detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within time constraints.
  • Capacity to multitask without sacrificing quality or safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Carpenter OR a completion of a recognized apprenticeship or vocational program, in lieu of education.
  • Experience in government, industrial, or commercial construction is preferred.
  • Experience levels with layout instruments, operated equipment, hand tools, and shop equipment will determine position classification (e.g., Carpenter Level I, Level II, Level III, etc.)

  • ANSI/ASSE Z359: Fall Protection (Worker)
  • OSHA Confined Space Entry Training for Construction
  • 40-Hour EM 385-1-1 Hazard Recognition Course
  • Hazardous Communication Training
  • Level 1 Anti-Terrorism Training

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job the employee may work in a range of weather and environmental conditions. Accordingly, the employee must wear the appropriate clothing and PPE. The incumbent is regularly required to walk, climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding, and stand for extended periods. Talk and listen at normal levels. See with close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and able to adjust focus. Reach with hands and arms. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
