About This Position

Position Description:

Responsible for the overall management, security, and performance of the Credit Union’s information technology systems and infrastructure. Oversee core processing systems, network administration, cybersecurity, hardware and software maintenance, vendor management, and IT project implementation. Develops IT policies, disaster recovery plans, and security protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and protection of member data. Provides strategic guidance to align technology initiatives with organizational goals and ensures the Credit Union operates efficiently and securely.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • IT Department Leadership
    • Leads IT team by providing direction, coaching, training, and development opportunities.
    • Establishes departmental goals, performance standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Oversees implementation and testing of system enhancements, upgrades, and security protocols.
    • Holds staff accountable for compliance, performance, and service delivery standards.
    • Provides effective feedback through coaching and timely performance appraisals.
    • Communicates Credit Union technology strategy and priorities through regular meetings and reports.
    • Ensures IT resources support organizational efficiency, security, and future growth.
    • Monitors industry trends to recommend new technologies and innovations that improve member service and operational resilience.
    • Develops and maintains IT procedures, documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Systems & Network Management
    • Oversees daily operation of core banking systems, network infrastructure, and critical business applications.
    • Ensures maximum system uptime, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
    • Manages user access controls, system configurations, and software licensing.
    • Implements security measures to protect member data and Credit Union assets from cyber threats.
    • Coordinates regular testing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
    • Ensures timely resolution of technical issues and escalates critical incidents when necessary.
  • Vendor & Project Management
    • Manages relationships with core system providers, cybersecurity partners, and IT service vendors.
    • Negotiates and reviews contracts, service level agreements, and renewal schedules.
    • Oversees technology-related projects, including hardware and software upgrades, system integrations, and new service roll-outs.
    • Tracks project timelines, budgets, and performance metrics to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance
    • Ensures adherence to NCUA, FFIEC, and other regulatory requirements related to IT security and data protection.
    • Conducts regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk evaluations.
    • Develops and delivers cybersecurity awareness training for staff.
    • Maintains audit-ready documentation and responds to IT-related audit and regulatory requests.
  • Technical Support & Service Delivery
    • Oversees helpdesk operations and ensures timely support for internal users and branch operations.
    • Establishes protocols for hardware replacement, software upgrades, and technical troubleshooting.
    • Ensures IT assets are tracked, inventoried, and maintained according to lifecycle schedules.

Performance Measurements:

  • IT systems maintain high availability, security, and reliability with minimal downtime.
  • IT projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet organizational needs.
  • Compliance with regulatory and audit requirements is achieved with no significant findings.
  • Cybersecurity measures effectively protect member data and Credit Union assets.
  • IT staff are well trained, engaged, and capable of meeting operational demands.
  • Positive working relationships exist with vendors and internal departments.
  • Strategic IT initiatives contribute to improved member service and operational efficiency.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Three to five years of progressively responsible IT management or network administration experience, preferably in a financial institution.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent experience.

Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff and influence strategic decision-making.

Other Skills:

  • Proficient in core banking systems, network administration, virtualization, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Knowledge of IT compliance standards (NCUA, FFIEC, GLBA).
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting and vendor oversight.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift boxes or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
