We seek a Human Anatomy and Physiology instructor with demonstrated excellence in teaching and with relevant scholarship experience. This posting is for a 3-year Limited Term Contract (LTC) as a Teaching Assistant Professor (80% teaching, 20% service). Teaching faculty members instruct within lecture, lab, and/or seminar classes totaling 8 course-equivalents/year. Most years, this means having 12-15 contact hours per week (e.g., 6-9 hours of lecture, 3-6 hours in lab) with our students each semester. Though not a requirement of the position, teaching faculty members do have the opportunity to supervise research students and conduct independent research. This candidate will contribute to the core themes of the Department, Faculty and University.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate will be responsible for facilitating student learning by delivering courses that are part of the Biological Sciences but cater to students interested in pursuing Medicine, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Allied Health Sciences programs like Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Candidates will:
- Teach existing courses that span the areas of human biology, physiology, anatomy, human nutrition, human health physiology, medical physiology, and human health.
- Expand upon current laboratory and field-related courses focusing on human biology, health and disease.
Successful candidates will have relevant training in Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Human Nutrition, Human Health Sciences, Human Pathophysiology, and/or Human Health Bioinformatics with quality teaching and/or research experience in these areas. Previous experience in lecture and/or lab course development and coordination will be viewed very favorably. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication will also be viewed as very desirable characteristics of applicants.
SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS
- A Ph.D. in the related discipline from a recognized University/Institution.
- A minimum of one year actively involved in teaching and other scholarly activities at the University level.
- Demonstrated scholarly activity: Publications/presentations/research and a combination of teaching/research and/or industry experience.
- Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the discipline.
- Demonstrated competence with relevant course content.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of best teaching practices.
