This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the backend infrastructure that powers engaging user experiences in youth sports and analytics. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will work on high-performance, data-intensive systems that transform complex statistics into real-time insights for athletes, coaches, and fans. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Designers, QA Analysts, and Engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions. This position empowers you to make architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and contribute to a dynamic, remote-first environment that values innovation and technical excellence. Your work will directly impact the way communities engage with sports and the tools they use to track and celebrate performance.
Accountabilities:- Own and enhance backend services supporting scorekeeping, fan engagement, and team management.
- Design, implement, and operate scalable, high-performance backend systems in production.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Evolve APIs and service contracts for reliable and performant communication between backend systems and client applications.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, improve system reliability, and deliver high-impact new features in data-intensive domains.
- Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance across backend systems.
- Contribute to technical documentation, design reviews, and knowledge sharing to maintain long-term maintainability and cross-team alignment.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of professional software development experience.
- 4+ years of experience building production backend systems using Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or comparable technologies.
- Proven experience in designing scalable, reliable backend services with strong observability and maintainability practices.
- Expertise in API design, service boundaries, and data contracts.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or similar cloud environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and experience mentoring engineers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
- Bonus: experience with frontend web development or data engineering.
