About This Position

CNC Lathe Operator / Setup – First Shift
Department: CNC
Reports To: CNC Supervisor
Shift: First Shift (7:00 AM – 3:20 PM)
Position Summary
The CNC Lathe Operator / Setup is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC lathes in a high-mix, low-volume machining environment. This role requires the ability to read blueprints, perform setups from start to finish, and ensure parts meet quality standards.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, takes pride in producing quality parts, enjoys working in a team environment, and has strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform machine setups on CNC lathes (work holding, tooling, offsets, program verification)
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Install and adjust cutting tools and inserts
  • Make program edits as needed
  • Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material properties and tolerances
  • Run first piece inspections and support quality checks
  • Perform In-Process inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.
  • Troubleshoot base machining issues such as tool wear or dimensional variation
  • Maintain accurate job documentation, time tracking, and quantity produced
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment following company and OSHA safety standards
  • Locate, assemble, and verify correct tooling according to work instructions and job documentation
  • Load, verify, and run CNC programs; confirm correct revision level and match to process plan
  • Safely operate the CNC in both manual and auto mode
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure jobs are completed on schedule and maintain quality standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years CNC lathe setup experience preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to perform setups with minimal supervision
  • Experience with HAAS controls preferred
  • Experience in a job shop or high-mix environment
