About This Position
We’re hiring a Construction Project Manager (AI) to own the quality of our automated construction drawing takeoffs and the automated estimates/material lists we produce. In this role you’ll ensure that takeoffs, scopes, and material/SKU matching meet customer-specific standards and can be executed quickly and accurately in the field.
Our clients are large construction material suppliers and general contractors. We focus on residential and will branch into commercial.
You’ll be managing other estimators who are performing quality control on estimates.
This role is ideal for someone with strong residential construction and estimating experience who wants to move beyond the field and into a product-driven environment—where your expertise directly shapes how AI understands construction, materials, and real-world workflows.
- Own Estimate Quality: Act as the primary point of contact between Handoff AI and our clients (GCs and suppliers), ensuring estimates meet client-specific expectations. This includes creating a system to enforce scope accuracy, quantity accuracy, and client preference accuracy.
- Manage Estimate Turnaround: Return estimates within 48 hours for enterprise contracts across residential and commercial projects, including both ground-up construction and remodel work.
- Produce Detailed Material Lists: Create material-level estimates that account for individual studs, siding, trim, fittings, fasteners, adhesives, consumables, and other required items.
- Match Customer Product Requirements: Ensure estimates align with exact SKUs, product lengths, cross-sections, specifications, preferred brands, product lines, and finish colorways.
- Lead Customer Communication: Support contractors and suppliers through phone calls, video meetings, and text, while setting clear expectations on capabilities and timelines.
- Manage Estimators: Oversee construction estimators and help ensure drawings and estimates are delivered on time and at the required quality bar.
- Support Computer Vision Training: Help guide team members annotating construction drawings and develop rules for how plans should be read to train computer vision models.
- Partner with Software Engineering: Work directly with machine learning engineers, AI Engineers, and full-stack developers to teach construction best practices and improve estimating software.
- Build and Review Test Cases: Produce reference estimates for software testing and review AI-generated estimates for scope, quantity, and formatting issues.
- Improve Estimate Performance: Review inaccurate estimates, identify root causes, and help prevent repeat errors for future outputs.
- Manage Budget Efficiency: Keep estimate creation within target labor budgets so the work remains profitable.
- We’re seeking people with these current roles:
- Estimator, Assistant Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, Quality Control Manager, Estimating Coordinator, Senior Project Engineer
- 3+ years of residential construction experience, with any of these company types: General Contracting, Ground-ups/New Builds, Remodeling, Volume Builders, Custom Homes, Design-Build, Single Family, Multi Family.
- Hands-on experience with drawing takeoff tools like PlanSwift, PrebuiltML, OST, or Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with estimating platforms such as Buildertrend, JobTread, or ProCore.
- Willingness to switch roles out of construction management and into construction software development in a startup environment.
- Hustle and Ownership: We’re looking for someone who can own the quality of our estimates and be the final say on accuracy. We need someone who can step up to be the face of our team to new clients.
- Field Trade Experience in any trade is a plus. We prefer applicants who have been foremen, journeymen, apprentices, inspectors, installers, quality control techs, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and similar.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end residential construction workflows—from foundation through finishes. The following are all a plus.
- Experience in crew management and subcontractor coordination.
- Experience in budgeting, bid leveling, job costing, bill of materials, and procurement.
- Experience in scheduling, RFIs, submittals, quality control, punch lists, and takeoffs.
- Experience in buyout, subcontracting, purchase orders (POs), inspections, and OSHA 10.
- Familiarity with construction trades including concrete, wood framing, roofing, siding/cornice, doors, windows, insulation, drywall, interior trim, cabinetry, countertops, interior finishes, painting, appliances, specialties, tile, flooring, MEP (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), site work, and utilities.
- Bonus: Experience working closely with software, product, or software development teams
- Bonus: Experience working at volume home builders or material suppliers.
- Competitive salary in USD
- Attractive stock options
- Unlimited PTO
- Relocation Allowance
- We’ll set you up with all the equipment you need
- Team Offsites
If you’ve been in the field and know what a “good estimate” really looks like—and you’re excited to help train AI to think the same way—you’ll have an outsized impact here.
