Laboratory Assistant

We’re looking for a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to work alongside our Medical Technologists and Technicians across multiple areas of the lab. In this role, you’ll greet and register patients, provide helpful phone support, collect and evaluate specimens, and prepare samples for testing through centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping. You’ll also assist with clinical testing processes and perform pointofcare and CLIAwaived testing, playing an essential part in maintaining smooth, accurate, and efficient laboratory operations.

      • Associates or Bachelor Degree in Science
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Required:
      • Valid Drivers License
    • Preferred:
      • Medical Laboratory Assistant MLA (ASCP) certification
        
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Required:
      • 1 year laboratory experience
    • Preferred:
      • 3-5 years laboratory experience

What you'll be doing The Laboratory Assistant greets and assists patients with professionalism and the customer service skills necessary to ensure an excellent patient experience. This position performs phlebotomy procedures according to established protocols and maintains an acceptable success rate. The role requires the ability to work accurately and precisely in crisis or emergent situations while prioritizing specimen processing based on patient and facility needs. The Laboratory Assistant performs CLIAwaived and moderate complexity testing within their authorized training level and reports results only when quality control measures meet required standards. They recognize outofrange quality control values and collaborate with technical staff to resolve issues, while also taking responsibility for troubleshooting problems and performing preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation. Additional responsibilities include clerical tasks, cleaning, maintaining daily workflow, and supporting effective laboratory operations. The Laboratory Assistant fosters a positive work environment through strong communication with staff, medical providers, and hospital personnel, and uses interpersonal skills to educate and support lab customers. If certified, they also perform BAT/COC collections according to protocol. The role includes maintaining adequate inventory supplies, completing competency documentation, pursuing continuing education, and participating in training new team members. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
