About This Position

Sr. Director, AI-Ready Data Governance

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Sr. Director, AI-Ready Data Governance in the United States.

This role defines and leads the enterprise-wide strategy for making data truly ready for AI at scale, ensuring that information across the organization is trusted, governed, and usable for intelligent systems and decision-making. You will operate at a senior leadership level with visibility across COO, CIO, and other executive stakeholders, shaping how data governance evolves from a compliance function into a strategic AI enabler. The position focuses on building the foundations of AI trust—ensuring data quality, lineage, and accountability across all domains. You will extend governance beyond traditional analytics into AI agents, models, and automated systems, defining what data can be used and how it should be trusted. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role requiring collaboration across engineering, AI, security, legal, and business teams. Your work will directly influence the safety, reliability, and scalability of AI-driven products and insights across the enterprise.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will own the enterprise data governance strategy and ensure data is structured, trusted, and operationally ready to support AI systems, models, and business decision-making at scale.

  • Define and evolve enterprise-wide data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, consistency, lineage, and trust across all critical domains.
  • Establish and enforce standards for “AI-ready” data, including classification rules, quality thresholds, and certification of authoritative datasets.
  • Extend governance beyond traditional data assets to include AI agents, models, and features, ensuring full transparency of data usage and transformation.
  • Maintain end-to-end data lineage from source systems through transformation layers to AI outputs, ensuring traceability and accountability.
  • Reduce duplication and unmanaged datasets that create inconsistencies, model drift, or unreliable AI outputs.
  • Partner with AI, Data Science, Security, Legal, and Privacy teams to embed governance into AI development and ensure regulatory and ethical compliance.
  • Continuously monitor data assets for drift, degradation, and evolving business context as AI adoption scales across the organization.
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data governance and enterprise data strategy, with the ability to translate governance principles into practical frameworks that enable AI-driven transformation. You are both strategic and hands-on, comfortable influencing executive stakeholders while guiding technical implementation.

  • Proven experience leading data governance, data management, or data platform initiatives in enterprise or SaaS environments.
  • Strong understanding of how data supports AI/ML systems, analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience building and scaling enterprise-grade data governance frameworks, including data quality, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Ability to define and operationalize data standards, policies, and classification systems across large organizations.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex governance concepts into actionable business and technical outcomes.
  • Experience working in high-growth, cloud-based, or data-intensive environments is highly valued.
Benefits
  • Competitive total compensation package including base salary and performance-based bonus (varies by U.S. geographic zone)
  • Unlimited paid time off, plus paid holidays and dedicated self-care and volunteer days
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage starting on day one
  • Paid parental leave for all parents, with extended leave for birthing parents
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions
  • Mental health support, therapy access, and wellness resources
  • Fertility, adoption, and family-building support programs
  • Flexible spending accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting
  • Learning and development programs including mentoring and online learning platforms
  • Inclusive benefits supporting wellbeing, family life, and long-term career growth
