POSITION: Youth Employment & Activities Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Youth Services
LOCATION: Juan Morel Campos Secondary School
REPORTS TO: Program Director
SALARY: $48,000-$50,000
DATES: April 2026
SCHEDULE: M–F, 8 am–4 pm / 9 am–5 pm, some late evenings and weekends
JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision, all Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand Street Settlement sites. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Youth Employment & Activities Coordinator is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the employment and attendance programs to promote a positive school-going culture and work experience for youth ages 14–24.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS:
- College Preferred
- Must have 3+ years’ experience working in specialized field
- Experience working in youth development programs, preferably youth employment opportunity programs.
- Experience managing multiple projects and activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and on the phone, with high professionalism
- Excellent written and oral skills, including the ability to make clear presentations and execute basic math skills.
- Strong sense of self-motivation; ability to work with minimal supervision, meet deadlines, prioritize activities, problem-solve, and function effectively with multiple projects and short timelines
- Excellent time management and event coordination skills
- Must demonstrate timeliness, attendance, and, most importantly, professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in a variety of situations
- Must have the ability to nurture respectful relationships with youth and be sensitive to the participants’ cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- The ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
- Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Check; Physical w/ updated TB test (fees may apply)
- Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional at all times and be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and most importantly, professionalism.
- Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
- A valid First Aid/RTE certification through a recognized accrediting body is preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must complete NYS OCFS Mandated Reporter and Foundations in Health and Safety training.
- Responsible for on-site, day-to-day supervision of programs, services, and activities funded directly through SYEP.
- Act as a liaison to worksites and conduct site visits.
- Serve as a liaison between department, participants and worksite representatives
- Review worksite monitoring notes.
- Ensure prompt and accurate submission of enrollment, payroll, and evaluations of SYEP and internship participants.
- Supervise the SYEP Monitor, interns, and SYEP participants.
- Monitor SYEP and internship activities, including recruitment, registration and collection of documentation, orientation, payroll, and program implementation.
- Maintains participant file to ensure that required documents are completed and activities are documented and in compliance with funding source
- Responsible for data entry into the SYEP database.
- Prepare periodic reports for the director and program leads.
- Identifies and documents supportive services for participants, including referrals to community-based programs
- Conduct pre-assessments for all work sites and perform weekly assessments of work sites during the summer program.
- Visit work sites and go on participant field trips.
- Assist the Program Director with weekly staff meetings.
- Conduct biweekly individual supervisory meetings with staff.
- Monitor and review incident reports and inform DYCD of all incidents.
- Assist the Program Director in monitoring the staff attendance sheets.
- Participate in DYCD SYEP meetings.
- Responsible for the success of positive and innovative service delivery.
- Coordinate and implement school-wide attendance initiatives.
- Gather all attendance team meeting documents for weekly attendance meetings.
- Create internship opportunities for students not enrolled in DYCD programs.
- Implement Success Mentoring program and oversee Success Mentors
- Responsible for supervising all participants, particularly during project-based activities.
- Attend all required department/agency meetings and/or training.
- Help enforce all rules and regulations and codes of conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.
