THE JOB
Tidewater Barge Lines is looking for Utility Laborers to join our team! This entry-level position is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Vancouver Maintenance Yard by performing general maintenance duties on barges, tugboats, facilities, and company vehicles. Responsibilities include:
Performs general maintenance on barges and tugboats, such as cleaning, painting, and organizing.
Performs general maintenance for facilities and company vehicles, such as housekeeping duties, clean up, organization of maintenance and repair materials, and painting.
Assists in cleanup during and after maintenance repairs.
Assisting tradesmen as required.
THE BENEFITS & PAY
Position wages are consistent with the United Steel Workers (USW) union contract and are based on years of employment with the Company. Starting wage is $27.21 per hour with an increase to $31.34 per hour after one year of employment with the Company.

THE CATCH
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Communication skills necessary to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships, influence change, resolve problems, and interact with personnel at all levels of the organization.
Ability to operate a fork lift and utility vehicles.
Ability to wear steel-toed boots, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, hard hat, fall protection harness, personal floatation device, welding helmet, welding leathers, coveralls and overalls, and leather gloves if needed. Must be able to be fitted for respirators and to wear them as required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Work Identification Credential (TWIC) Card from the Department of Homeland Security.
Ability to understand, abide by, and enforce all Company rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform all assigned duties safely, in accordance with established safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to represent the Company professionally.
- Must be available to work overtime as requested.
- Must maintain a current, valid drivers’ license and an insurable driving record to operate company-owned vehicles.
- Employment offer subject to passing a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and driving record/criminal background check.
