TOOL MAKER TOOL ROOM at PRECI MANUFACTURING INC – Winooski, Vermont

The toolmaker is responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dies), special guides and holding devices. They will work with a variety of materials including steels, aluminum, high temp alloys and plastics. A toolmaker’s job will also involve using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, so understanding of g-code programming is necessary.

Typical tasks include:

• Assembling, fitting and repairing tools
• Following engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool
• Using machinery such as manual and CNC lathes, manual and CNC mills, presses, and grinders to cut and shape the tools
• Using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)
• Using precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, microhite, etc.
• Assisting with tool maintenance
• Schedule workflows in tool room
• Support engineering staff in the design of tools and dies
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and organized fashion that follows all required safety policies and regulations

Qualifications:

• 3+ years toolmaking experience is preferred
• 3+ years running manual and CNC lathes and mills
• Ability to read drawings and process sheets
• Working knowledge of GD&T
