Westervelt operates in manufacturing and service sectors with interests in Forestry, Forest Recreation, Wood Products, Real Estate, and Environmental Services. While headquartered in Alabama, we have operations and land holdings across fifteen U.S. states and in New Zealand.

We are seeking a Corporate Strategy Intern to join our team at Headquarters in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This is a year-round position working up to 20 hours per week during Spring and Fall semesters and 40 hours during the summer.

This position supports Corporate Strategy including M&A and Business Development initiatives. Duties include assisting in execution of corporate strategic initiatives, providing support for individual business unit strategic and tactical planning, and measuring of business unit and corporate performance metrics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support business improvement, growth, and development opportunities.
  • Provide support for the annual corporate strategic planning process (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Assist in measuring and evaluating business performance.
  • Research, identify, track, and report on key competitor metrics.
  • Support development and maintenance of competitive intelligence processes.
  • Lead or assist with special projects in support of business and support groups.
  • Research, analyze, and prepare reports on special topics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, economics, finance, forestry, environmental science, or a related discipline. MBA degree candidate preferred.
  • Ability to search for, identify, collect, analyze, interpret, and evaluate information.
  • Basic knowledge of financial and accounting terminology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel using PivotTables and other advanced functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to comprehend, organize, simplify, and communicate complex research findings to team members.
