About This Position
Essential Job Functions:
• Operate a 10-wheeled roll-off truck to transport containers from transfer stations to
the County landfill
• Empty containers into the designated landfill working face or disposal cell
• Return empty containers to transfer station locations
• Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection logs
• Report mechanical issues and follow up to ensure repairs are completed
• Clean trash and debris around containers at all assigned locations
• Weigh containers at landfill scales for required MDE reporting
• Maintain the cleanliness and safe operating condition of assigned vehicles
• Wash truck regularly
• Operate a 10-wheeled dump truck as needed
• Communicate professionally with the public
• Work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):
• High school diploma or GED
• Two (2) or more years of roll-off truck driving experience
• Landfill experience preferred
• Valid Maryland Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B)
• Must meet and maintain DOT requirements
• Ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
• Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This
position requires- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, hearing, seeing,
and repetitive motion. • Must be able to exert over fifty pounds of force occasionally, or up to thirty. pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels with those for heavy work. • Must be able to endure high heat conditions and sub-freezing temperatures. Must be able to work in tight and closed spaces for extended periods of time. • Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments. • Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions.
Other:
• May be required to work on religious holidays.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Must work cooperatively with others.
• When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety,
readiness and operation of the vehicle, and must abide by Dorchester’s
safe driving policy.
