About This Position
LEAD TRANSPORTER
The Lead Transporter is responsible for overseeing the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to their destinations effectively. In addition, this position will ensure positive patient/client satisfaction by providing excellent customer service on the floor or on the telephone. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures accurate and timely dispatch of transport requests; ensures maximum staff productivity.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, orderly, and pleasant work environment for staff; ensures dispatch equipment is safe and in good, clean working condition.
- Understands and applies knowledge of basic transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics.
- Understands and is able to determine, explain, and develop dispatcher logic and transporter activities; acts as a transporter when necessary.
- Ensures proper operation of company hardware, software programs, page and phone handling systems; is able to troubleshoot and work with Information Systems.
- Train new and existing employees.
- Ensures requests have been completed in an efficient and timely manner according to current departmental standards and priorities.
- Develops and promotes positive effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors and staff.
- Resolves problems related to patient, patient family members, visitors and staff.
- Acts as a positive role model; possesses integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility and diplomacy.
- Follow up on complaints, providing solutions, and reporting them to the supervisor.
- Communicates effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians, or reception and dispatch.
- Demonstrates the ability to transport patients from patient units to other departments while on stretchers, beds or in wheelchairs as requested by departments safely and adhering to time schedules.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist clinical staff in moving patients onto stretchers or into wheelchairs by using proper lifting techniques.
- Demonstrates the ability to use approved protocols for safety, hand-off and patient Identification so that patients are moved as requested and scheduled. Ensures that chart, oxygen and other transport necessities are ready at time of transport to avoid delays.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
- 6 months of related experience, required
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Licenses / Certifications:
- N/A
Other:
- Knowledge and use of computerized materials management system.
- Ability to effectively work as a team member.
- Ability to communicate with others at all levels within the organization.
