Heavy Equipment Mechanic Ensure Operational Excellence for Premier Roadway Infrastructure

Job Overview

  • Location: Metropolitan Detroit Area.

  • Schedule: Afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed.

The Opportunity You will play a vital role in the success of major infrastructure projects by ensuring our fleet of heavy-duty machinery remains in peak operational condition. This hands-on position offers the stability of a union role within a respected, third-generation family business where your technical expertise directly impacts the safety and efficiency of our field operations. You will have the opportunity to work independently across a diverse range of equipment, from heavy excavators to specialized paving assets.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Execute complex mechanical and hydraulic repairs on a diverse fleet of trucks and heavy equipment.

  • Diagnose electrical and engine malfunctions using advanced troubleshooting techniques to minimize field downtime.

  • Conduct rigorous preventative maintenance inspections to maximize equipment lifespan and operator safety.

  • Respond to emergency on-site breakdowns to provide rapid solutions and keep critical roadway projects on schedule.

  • Manage detailed work orders and maintenance logs to ensure accurate tracking of all company assets.

  • Collaborate with the Shop Manager to oversee special repair projects and operational improvements.

  • Enforce industry-leading safety standards while maintaining a clean and organized shop environment.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive experience performing repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, and excavators.

  • Deep knowledge of diagnostics for engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues independently with minimal supervision.

  • Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying outdoor weather conditions.

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to follow complex technical directions efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in welding and electrical system fabrication.

  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a construction or shop environment.

  • Familiarity with Michigan union labor agreements and safety compliance.
