About This Position

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Centers

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Position Overview:

Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Centers (AKDHC) (www.akdhc.com) is a leading physician-owned nephrology practice serving patients across Arizona. With more than 100 nephrologists, 19 advanced practice providers, and 4 ambulatory surgery centers, AKDHC delivers comprehensive kidney care across the full continuum.

AKDHC is seeking an accomplished Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for a complex, multi-site specialty organization. This role requires a seasoned healthcare executive with deep experience in large private medical practices and a sophisticated understanding of nephrology-adjacent business models, including value-based care, dialysis partnerships, ancillary service development, and real estate strategy.

Reporting to and partnering closely with the physician Board of Directors, the CEO will lead enterprise strategy, drive sustainable growth, and strengthen clinical and financial performance in an increasingly complex reimbursement and regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute a long-term enterprise strategy focused on nephrology-specific growth opportunities, including dialysis partnerships, CKD care models, population health, and value-based kidney care initiatives
  • Evaluate and implement alternative payment models, risk-bearing arrangements, and other value-based care strategies
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for geographic expansion, practice affiliations, and physician recruitment aligned with market demand
  • Lead the evaluation and development of ancillary and integrated services, including vascular access, clinical research, care coordination, and home dialysis support
  • Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Provide executive-level financial oversight across complex nephrology revenue streams, payer mixes, and reimbursement models
  • Drive performance improvement in revenue cycle management, cost structure, and physician compensation methodologies
  • Ensure operational excellence across clinical support functions, compliance, quality reporting, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee and optimize strategic relationships with dialysis providers, hospitals, health systems, and payers
  • Physician Partnership & Governance

  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the physician Board of Directors, supporting effective governance and long-term planning
  • Balance physician autonomy and clinical priorities with strong business discipline in a physician-led private practice model
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable the executive and administrative leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration
  • Required Qualifications

  • Senior executive leadership experience in a large, physician-owned medical practice strongly preferred
  • Proven leadership within a medical group of 50+ physicians; specialty practice experience highly desirable
  • Demonstrated expertise in nephrology practice management, dialysis economics, or closely related specialty care models
  • Track record of success in strategic planning, financial management, and execution of growth initiatives
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analytics in a multi-site healthcare environment
  • Experience working effectively with physician boards and navigating complex governance structures
  • Master’s degree required; MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred
  • Personal Attributes

  • Executive presence with the credibility to lead and influence highly engaged physician stakeholders
  • Strategic, analytical, and data-driven decision-maker with a strong execution mindset
  • Collaborative leadership style well-suited to a clinically sophisticated, physician-owned culture
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and exceptional communication skills
  • Location & Lifestyle

    • Phoenix, Arizona
