Global Logistics and Trade Compliance Specialist at Active Dynamics – Toronto, Ontario

This role is responsible for global logistics execution and trade compliance activities supporting domestic and international material movements across multiple regions. This role ensures compliant, timely, and well-coordinated transportation of goods through direct management of freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipment documentation processes. The position owns shipment visibility, customs accuracy, and execution discipline using established routing guides and internal tracking tools. Acting as a subject matter expert in customs and trade compliance, this role supports multiple business locations and partners cross-functionally to mitigate risk, prevent disruptions, and maintain regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Logistics Execution & Forwarder Governance:- Execute and monitor inbound and outbound shipments across all transportation modes (air, ocean, ground) in accordance with established routing guides and commercial agreements negotiated by Procurement.
- Maintain real-time shipment visibility through Logistics execution tools for internal tracking; proactively communicate delays, risks, and recovery actions to stakeholders.
- Serve as primary operational contact for freight forwarders and carriers to ensure proper execution, documentation accuracy, and adherence to service requirements.
- Support exception management including delays, customs hold, documentation errors, or misrouting, escalating as required.
Expert Trade Compliance & Technical Customs:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable import/export regulations across operating regions.
- Review and audit customs entries for accuracy of HS classification, valuation, country of origin, tariff treatment, and documentation completeness.
- Determine and Maintain the HS code databases and customs master data within ERP / other tracking systems.
- Work closely with customs brokers to resolve clearance issues, file amendments, corrections, and refunds where required.
- Prepare and submit duty drawback claims and support other post-entry activities.
- Maintain awareness of changes in customs regulations, tariffs, trade agreements, sanctions, and government programs; communicate impacts internally.
- Support internal and external customs audits, including record retention, responses, and corrective actions.
Data Analytics (Performance-Driven):
- Maintain logistics and customs data integrity across tracking, ERP, and reporting tools.
- Develop and maintain standard reports and dashboards related to shipment status, clearance performance, broker accuracy, and compliance metrics.
- Analyze logistics execution and customs data to identify trends, risks, and process improvement opportunities.
- Support NPI teams by providing logistics and customs inputs for landed cost assessments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance:
- Partner with Procurement, Finance, NPI, Operations, and Quality to support program launches and ongoing operations.
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams and suppliers on logistics execution and customs compliance requirements.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of logistics and trade compliance SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Perform other duties in support of the Global Logistics & Compliance function as required.
Educational Requirement:
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS)
- Degree/Diploma/Designation in a related field (CLTD, CCLP, PFF, CSCP)
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a progressive logistics and customs compliance role including transportation regulations as pertaining to all transportation modes and vendor countries.
- Excellent communications skills with an understanding of both internal and external customer/vendor needs.
- Ability to respond appropriately in high pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
- Highly organized and able to undertake and prioritize a multitude of tasks in a demanding environment.
- Highly analytical and meticulous.
- Strong attention to detail, highly efficient and effective time management skills, Written and verbal fluency in English.
