Title: Driver

Location: New York Metropolitan Area

Reports to: Site Director

Pay Range: $21.97 per hour (effectively $40,000 per year)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Status: Full-time (35 hour per week)

Role Summary: The successful candidate will operate and maintain NAICA’s transportation vehicle. The candidate will be responsible for performing daily pre-trip vehicle inspections, minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles, ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported. Additionally required to document customer usage, prepare trip reports and accident and incident reports. The candidate will be encouraged to be cross-trained and understand job functions within the department. 

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:

The Driver is responsible for, but not limited to: 

Operates assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner;  Maintains defensive driving;  Provides a communication link between residents and staff;  Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and securement devices as needed;  Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English;  Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside;  Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident report, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management;  Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required;  Fuels the assigned vehicle(s);  Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions;  Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and in service training to maintain and improve professional competence;  Strictly adhering to safety, health, and fire hazard guidelines, organizational policies, and procedures, as well as the mission and values of the organization;  Promptly reporting any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory or maintenance personnel;  Collaborating with security personnel to ensure the safety of both staff and asylum seekers in the program;  Demonstrating flexibility in scheduling, including the possibility of working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed;  Provide coverage for other areas as directed/needed. 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over. Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods. Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:

Staff must continue working past their shift unless relieved by another staff member or authorized to leave by a supervisor. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods. May be required to work on or during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

Valid New York State Driver’s License; CDL preferred  Abstract report is mandatory prior to hire date and every six months thereafter  Possess a clean driving record  Knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s) and ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs/repairs  Attention to detain, organized and efficient  Maturity, integrity, and sound judgement  Knowledge and experience interacting with mental health clients  Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.  Must pass drug screening to be appointed.  This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment
