Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and directs the food safety program, supporting company quality objectives, regulatory compliance, and budget management.
  • Makes recommendations to Bakery Operations Manager when adjustments to production methods or programs are required to elevate food safety to in a manner that is consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Develops and continually reviews food safety/sanitation procedures, standards, and policies to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws/codes governing food safety and labor relations.
  • Serves as the primary representative and subject matter expert in all federal, state, local and private regulatory inspections.
  • Provides oversight and follow-up to maintain accurate documentation and records related to sanitation activities, including cleaning schedules, inspection reports, training records, and regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Responsible for the oversight of specific building maintenance assigned to Sanitation, including pest control procedures, with proper planning under budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and providing direction for the sanitation and receiving teams, ensuring the effective coordination of routine tasks and unforeseen tasks as applicable.
  • Schedule and manage all employees in compliance with company policy and local, state, federal laws. Non-union team.
  • Consults with management team to ensure routines and controls keep the organization operating safely and effectively.
  • Support and contribute to maintaining a safe environment by working in safe manner, promoting accident prevention, and resolving potential hazards in a timely manner.
  • Address safety concerns while employees are performing job tasks. Provides initial job training for safe work methods and GMPs.
  • Organizes, conducts or assists all required food safety training for the bakery.
  • Ability to determine and identify Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Preventative Action Plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

          Preferred Education/Experience

          • Minimum 5 years' experience in sanitation, food safety with strong operational experience of GMP, sanitation, and environmental monitoring.
          • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
          • HACCP / Food Defense / PCQI credentials required.
          • Bachelor's degree in food science, quality systems or equivalent experience or qualifications, preferred.
          • Prior experience within large baking facilities or similar food manufacturing, preferred.
          • Intermediate computer software skills required.

          • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimum direction.
          • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including understanding of risk management.
          • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, division and department heads, and third-party vendors.
          • Excellent interpersonal skills – a proven team player which contributes to a result oriented and hard-working team environment.
          • Highly flexible and adaptable. Able to work independently in a fast-paced multitasking environment.
          • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
          • Must be able to work in manufacturing environments, including standing for extended periods and wearing PPE.
          • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence.
          • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
          • Ability to effectively troubleshoot under stressful conditions.
