Plant Thermal Hydraulic Methods Manager –

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Plant Thermal Hydraulic Analysis Group, the Plant Thermal Hydraulic Methods Manager oversees a team of 12+ staff and contractors to deliver the Design Basis Accident without fuel failure topical report and supporting methodologies to defend the Natrium Reactor design basis and safety. The successful candidate will have prior experience working within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Responsibilities and preferred qualifications are listed below:


Responsibilities

• Development and Defense of Licensing Basis Events without Fuel Failure safety methodology following NuReg 1.203.


• Oversee Development of Topical Report development for Licensing Basis Events without fuel failure.


• Interface and direct pre-engagement Meetings with the NRC for Natrium Safety Methodologies


• Lead Validation and Verification of Safety Evaluation Models.


• Develop group schedule and initiatives with team leads that adhere to project deadlines.


• Act as subject matter expert on technical challenges surrounding thermal hydraulic decisions on sodium fast reactors.


• Oversee TP RELAP5-3D code development under NQA-1 compliant program to meet project requirements.


• Develop and execute strategy for in-house and legacy test campaigns for validation and verification.


• Define and execute startup testing strategy as part of the overall qualification process.


• Communicate and develop strategies/partnerships within the safety engineering and analysis department to meet project goals.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• B.S. (+ 10 years), M.S. (+8 years), or PhD (+ 6 year) in nuclear, mechanical, or another related engineering/scientific field.


• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.


• Prior People and Project Management is a plus.


• Demonstrated experience with the development of transient safety analysis modeling methodologies, including system code base model methodology development and event-specific transient safety analysis methodology development.


• Familiarity with Licensing Basis Events and DBA topical requirements.


• Demonstrated application of Reg Guide 1.203 to nuclear reactor safety calculations.


• Strong thermal-hydraulic analytical skills with one dimensional hydraulic network analysis, system codes experience and transient analysis.


• Familiarity with code V&V and associated regulatory requirements.


• Familiarity with nuclear reactor startup and commissioning


• Knowledgeable in nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic, reactor dynamics, and transient phenomena.


• Experience with nuclear power plant design or operations a plus.


• Experience with commercial nuclear power plant licensing a plus.


• Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges.


• Strong sense of emotional intelligence and advocacy


• Effectual communicator with the ability to speak with candor


• Possesses high integrity and leads with an ethical stance


• Effective at resource prioritization and decision making


• Possesses the ability to think and lead strategically

Salary Range Level 12: $169,922 - $235,464

Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
