About This Position

Job Summary

Southwind Construction, a subsidiary of Quivera Enterprises, is seeking a Construction Laborer to support field operations across federal, industrial, and commercial construction projects. The Laborer performs a wide range of physical tasks including site preparation, material handling, equipment operation support, demolition, cleanup, and assisting skilled trades. This role requires reliability, physical stamina, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively as part of a construction team.

Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Labor & Site Support
  • Perform site preparation including clearing debris, unloading materials, and staging supplies.

  • Assist carpenters, equipment operators, and other trades as directed.

  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact soil.

  • Load and unload building materials and distribute them to appropriate locations.

  • Erect and dismantle temporary structures such as scaffolding, barricades, and fencing.

  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely.

  • Assist with demolition activities including removal of concrete, drywall, flooring, and other materials.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and job site procedures.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas to reduce hazards.

  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents to the Supervisor or SSHO.

  • Participate in daily safety briefings and weekly toolbox meetings.

  • Comply with EM 385‑1‑1, OSHA, and project‑specific safety requirements.

Equipment & Tool Support
  • Assist with operating small equipment such as compactors, saws, drills, and generators.

  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report defects.

  • Maintain and store tools properly at the end of each shift.

Material Handling & Logistics
  • Move, lift, and position materials manually or with equipment assistance.

  • Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying material quantities.

  • Support site logistics including traffic control, staging, and cleanup.

Site Cleanup & Housekeeping
  • Perform daily cleanup of work areas, removing debris, sweeping, and disposing of waste.

  • Maintain safe walkways, work zones, and storage areas.

  • Assist with stormwater protection measures and erosion control tasks.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, and standing for long periods.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to maintain client and team relationships.

  • Subject to background check, drug screening, and confidentiality requirements.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (up to Top Secret).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in construction or general labor.

  • Experience on federal, industrial, or commercial job sites.

  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.

Education Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED preferred but not required.

Certifications

Required within the first year of employment:

  • Bloodborne Pathogen

  • First Aid/CPR

  • OSHA 10‑Hour Construction

  • Hazard Communication

  • Fall Protection (Worker)

  • Confined Space Awareness

  • EM 385‑1‑1 Hazard Recognition (40‑Hour)

  • Additional safety training as required by project needs
