About This Position

Job Title: Production Supervisor - SMT
Location: Newark, CA
Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: Production Manager

Overview: The Production Supervisor - Backend will oversee and manage post-SMT manufacturing processes, including conformal coating, rework, testing, and secondary assembly operations. This role is critical to ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance with customer and industry standards across backend production activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day backend operations including conformal coating, rework, manual assembly, touch-up, testing, labeling, and packaging.

  • Assign tasks, monitor work schedules, and ensure optimal utilization of labor and equipment.

  • Ensure processes adhere to IPC standards, customer requirements, and company quality policies.

  • Train, mentor, and evaluate production staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, and Production Planning teams to resolve process issues and achieve delivery targets.

  • Monitor production output; ensure timely completion of customer orders.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce defects, scrap, and rework.

  • Maintain accurate production records, reports, and KPIs

  • Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all safety standards.

  • Collaborate with SMT and other upstream/downstream teams to ensure smooth production handoffs.

    Additional duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • 5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of backend operations such as conformal coating, rework, manual soldering, and packaging.

  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and motivate a team in a fast-paced EMS setting.
