Position Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Position Purpose:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides professional respiratory care services in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical protocols at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The RRT delivers high-quality respiratory therapy services to patients requiring cardiopulmonary support and treatment while maintaining compliance with VA standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable clinical guidelines.

This position is Contingent Upon Award of Contract 36C26226Q0285. Employment is dependent upon Government award and contract funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway management, and ventilator support as prescribed.

• Perform cardiopulmonary assessments and document findings accurately in the electronic health record.

• Set up, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilators and related respiratory equipment.

• Conduct arterial blood gas sampling and interpret results within scope of practice.

• Provide patient and caregiver education regarding respiratory conditions, therapies, and equipment use.

• Respond to emergency situations including code responses and rapid response events.

• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment.

• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

• Ensure compliance with infection control policies and VA clinical guidelines.

• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with VA standards.



Qualifications

Requirements:

• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an RRT in an acute care or hospital setting preferred.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required per facility standards.

• Ability to pass VA credentialing and background screening requirements.

• Must meet all VA onboarding, health screening, and drug testing requirements.

Working Conditions and Environment

Work is performed in a hospital and clinical environment. The position may require exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and medical emergencies. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be used in accordance with VA policies.

Physical Requirements

The position requires repetitive motion, such as standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Light lifting, up to 20 pounds, may be required.
