CAC Family Advocate – Youngstown, OH

Salary $: $18.00 - $19.00 DOE; Full Time (40 hours per week); includes comprehensive and generous benefits and leave package.

Shift: Dayshift, M-F primarily, but may change based on programmatic and staffing needs

Position Summary:

The Family Advocate provides trauma-informed support and advocacy to non-offending family members of children seen at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and to survivors served through the Rape Crisis Counseling Center (RCCC). This role is vital in guiding families and survivors through the aftermath of sexual abuse, assault, and human trafficking—offering a steady presence from initial disclosure through case resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to families and survivors, particularly children affected by sexual assault, abuse, and human trafficking.
  • Follow each case from intake to resolution, maintaining consistent communication and advocacy for clients throughout the investigative and judicial process.
  • Educate clients about the criminal justice system and their rights; offer timely updates on case status.
  • Assist with Victims of Crime Compensation applications and VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) registration.
  • Serve as a liaison between families and the CAC, RCCC, law enforcement, and court personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records on all clients served to meet grant and agency requirements.
  • Track demographic and service data and support program evaluation efforts.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new programs and awareness initiatives, especially those impacting youth and vulnerable families.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and individual supervision as scheduled.
  • Be available for on-call rotation, including crisis response related to PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) in regional facilities.
  • Conduct outreach, education, and public speaking engagements as assigned by the Social Services & Development Officer.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and community partners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a human service field, preferred.
  • Will need to complete 40 hours of core training. Thirty hours every two years thereafter are required and need to be maintained.
  • Ability to navigate and use victim services software packages. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and Google business products.

Miscellaneous requirements: Criminal background check; Pre-employment drug screen; Clear driving record; TB test, Mini-Physical and First Aid/CPR. High stress due to timeliness, frequency and volume of interpersonal interaction, and potential crisis situations.

Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills: Proven ability to support individuals and families in crisis with empathy, resilience, and professionalism, Comfortable working independently while also thriving in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, Skilled in managing sensitive and emotionally charged situations with discretion and compassion, Knowledge of trauma-informed care, victim advocacy, and the dynamics of sexual assault, abuse, and trafficking, Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime, On-call Status with stipend and hourly reimbursement.
