Essential Functions:
  • Assists the lab technicians in all day-to-day laboratory operations including accurately running CBCs, UA dipsticks, centrifuging samples, staining slides, and setting up fecals and cultures.
  • Provides lab-related customer service by answering phones, retrieving/faxing lab work, responding to emails, and filling add-on tests and supply requests.
  • Responsible for keeping the lab stocked and organized by unpacking shipments, filling sample cups and pipettes, cleaning counters and cabinets, taking out trash and recycling.
  • Participates with the team and supervisors to foster teamwork and facilitate a productive, professional working environment.
  • Understands and consistently follows Thrive policies and procedures. Ensuring lab practices meet or exceed policy and industry standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • To excel in this position, you should be detail oriented, be able to multitask, be careful, and be accurate.
The laboratory assistant may occasionally have to cover for courier's that are on vacation or out sick.
  • Providing timely and dependable delivery of stock and lab supplies from stockroom and hospitals.
  • Picking up lab specimens/ tests from hospitals for the laboratory
  • Valid New York State driver's license
Education: High School or GED equivalent
Experience: Entry level position
Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting and standing
  • Lifting 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate equipment
  • Ability to enter data and read computer
Hazards:
  • Exposure to animal bodily fluids
  • Exposure to hazardous chemical and hazardous waste
Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a starting rate ranging from $15.50-20/hr. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
