General Duties
- Responsible for fulfilling the duties of this job description.
- Accountable to the Hospitalist and Chief Nursing Officer.
- Serves as a role model of cardiovascular health.
- Desire to work within a comprehensive health care team.
- Assumes responsibility for the ongoing operation of the cardiac rehabilitation program.
- Development and implementation of program protocols, standing orders, policies and procedures and reviews annually.
- Development of admissions process, exercise guidelines, emergency protocols, staffing patterns and record keeping routines.
- Participates in continuing education programs and seminars to maintain current competency in cardiovascular care and cardiac rehabilitation related concepts.
- With staff maintains, calibrates and has equipment scheduled for repair.
- Maintains confidential, appropriate participant records in accordance with accepted standards. i.e. DNV, Medicare, HIPPA.
- Review and report participant progress and problems to hospitalist and/or the referring physicians.
- Communicate regularly with participant's primary physician regarding progress, problems and plan of care.
- Communicate regularly with the surrounding community increasing awareness of the prevention and treatment of heart disease.
- Evaluates the program effectiveness by developing and implementing ongoing Quality Improvement indicators.
- Obtain BLS and ACLS.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives as directed.
- Accountable and responsible for personal professional development, knowledge and skills through participation in continuing education.
- Perform duties as assigned.
Nursing Process
- Collects relevant patient data or reviews data collection on admission and ongoing to assure holistic assessment.
- Assesses the demands of the patient's illness on the patient and the patient's potential for adaptation.
- Continuously analyzes patient data to identify patient's needs using Nursing Diagnosis.
- Updates patient's assessments regularly adding new problems and deleting obsolete ones.
- Initiates and participates in team care planning/conferences.
- Continually evaluates and documents patient's progression toward care goals.
- Educates patients in self care, prevention, medication, treatments, procedures, disease, symptom management, etc. Uses available resources and assures that education needs are met for all patients.
- Develops update and/or give patient education programming.
- Demonstrates shorter length of stays due to effective discharge planning.
- Develops and implements participant orientation, education, exercise, risk factor modification and counseling.
- Reports any significant participant conditions (dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure responses, change in participant's status, etc.) to the physician supervising the program immediately. Initiates ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to hospital policy.
Nursing Skills
- Performs nursing skills according to REHC policies and procedures using proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
- Revises and updates current policies and procedures and develops new ones as needed.
- Implements physician orders correctly and in a timely manner.
- Manages multiple patient care situations, prioritizes to meet all patient needs.
- Documents according to charting guidelines.
- Serves as a teacher and role model to others. Updates charting policies.
- Identifies self to patients and others, explains procedures and uses good communication techniques.
- Recognizes and intervenes when pertinent patient changes occur. Reports this to necessary staff.
- Able to perform in crisis or complex situations grasping problem and managing team work.
- Keeps current in nursing knowledge. Attends 75% of mandatory meetings.
- Attends educational offerings that enhance knowledge in current role at REHC.
- Attends educational offerings which contribute to the overall mission of REHC.
- Supervises exercise session, monitoring participants pre and post exercise and watching for abnormal responses on the telemetry device.
- Familiar with Excel Spreadsheets preferred.

- Assists REHC to maintain compliance with Dept of Health and Human Services rules and regulations.
- Recognizes when standards are not being met and makes changes that effectively brings the organization into compliance.

- Assists in orientation of staff with courtesy and respect including skill development, problem solving and decision-making.
- Takes an active role in assuring that new employees are oriented in all aspects of the job, evaluating progress, and devising learning opportunities that meet the needs of the new employee.

- Adheres to the Bill of Rights and follows confidentiality policy.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Minnesota license, certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association) ,ACLS or ability to complete ACLS within six months of hire, PALS or ability to complete PALS within six months of hire.Registered nurses caring for trauma admissions to the medical/surgical floor are required to complete a trauma training course within six weeks of hire and complete a TNCCcourse within eighteen months of hire or eighteen months from effective date January 2024.
- Ability to interact in a positive and cooperative manner with courtesy and respect towards co-workers, patients, and other customers.
- Must be able to analyze and interpret cardiac rhythms and cardiac monitoring strips.
- Must demonstrate ability to take manual vital signs.
- Sincere interest in nursing with knowledge in general medical/surgical nursing and the ability to use the nursing process.
- One to two years experience as an RN. Minimum one year hospital experience.
