Beacon Health System is hiring a full-time evening shift Registered Nurse for our Surgery Department at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

Type: Full-Time/FTE 1.0 (40 hrs/wk)
Shift: Evening
Shift Details: Monday-Friday 1pm-11:30pm

What You’ll Do

As an Surgery Department Registered Nurse, you play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care by preparing the surgical suite, organizing equipment and supplies, and supporting the surgical team throughout each procedure. Responsibilities include interviewing and transporting patients, assisting anesthesia with induction and emergence, positioning and prepping patients, maintaining a sterile environment, documenting intraoperative activities, and assisting with patient transport and room turnover. You will report to the Director or Manager, provide professional nursing services in area of assignment. You will assess the needs of patients and initiates, implements and evaluates individualized plans of care. Lastly, you will collaborate with other professional, clinical and ancillary staff in providing compassionate and quality care to patients

Surgery Department RN Job Responsibilities

  • Delivers safe, high-quality patient care by performing priority clinical procedures and responding to patient needs.
  • Develops, implements, and adjusts individualized care plans to ensure continuity across the care continuum.
  • Maintains accountability for clinical decisions, delegation, documentation, and patient advocacy.
  • Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Adheres to professional standards, regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Participates in ongoing education, competency validation, and maintains required licensure/certifications.
  • Contributes to clinical excellence, team development, and overall departmental and organizational goals.

What You Bring

  • As a Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate a high level of knowledge, interdisciplinary planning and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment and techniques. You will demonstrate advanced analytical skills necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care and strong interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians and others. You will demonstrate ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. It requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions and requires the ability to work independently, take initiative and be self-motivated.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and RN license in the state of Indiana
  • Candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must have or obtain a BSN within five (5) years of employment as a Registered Nurse or will have the option to become certified in their area of specialty. The certification must be maintained based off of accrediting body standards.
  • Surgical/OR experience preferred — however, we offer a comprehensive Perioperative Training Program for nurses with strong interest and passion in developing OR skills
