Responsibilities
The Manager, Finance & Operations for the India office bridges financial strategy with daily execution, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting (MIS), compliance (TDS, GST), and cost control, while also managing operational aspects like customer/vendor management, process efficiency, and team leadership, ensuring financial health of the India entities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Confirm the company’s local revenue and costs are accurately and timely recorded in the financial system that supports both general project accounting and overall office business
- Ensure Statutory Compliance and Regulatory Management for India
- Compliance with Indian statutory requirements including:
- GST filings (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, annual returns)
- TDS computation, deduction, and quarterly filings
- Provident Fund (PF), ESI, Professional Tax
- Labour law compliance
- Shops & Establishment Act
- Companies Act requirements (ROC filings)
- Coordinate with Company Secretary and external consultants for annual filings and board documentation.
- Manage statutory audits, tax audits, and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure FEMA compliance for intercompany transactions and foreign remittances.
- Oversee transfer pricing documentation in coordination with U.S. finance.
- Process local payroll (until migrated to U.S. system), calculating deductions, updating tax information, managing time-tracking data, addressing employee payroll inquiries, and maintaining compliance with all immigration requirements.
- Manage end-to-end India payroll including:
- Salary structuring
- TDS calculations
- PF, ESI, Professional Tax compliance
- Leave encashment and full & final settlements
- Ensure compliance with Indian labor laws.
- Manage employee benefits administration including:
- Group medical insurance
- Gratuity
- Leave policies
- Support U.S. team with budgeting and forecasting in relation to all local activity.
- Consult with U.S. management regarding major policy decisions, major expenditures, and unusual problems.
- Oversee the full AR cycle, including invoicing, collections, cash application, adjustments, and financial close procedures.
- Manage the daily invoicing process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with contractual terms.
- Review customer contracts and purchase orders to support proper invoicing and billing practices.
- Partner with internal departments to resolve customer billing issues.
- Strengthening internal controls related to billing, cash handling, and credit processes to reduce risk and ensure compliance with company policies and audit requirements.
- Oversee the full AP cycle, including processing invoices, matching purchase orders, conducting three-way matching, reconciling vendor statements, managing employee/vendor expense reimbursements, and preparing check runs or ACH payments.
- Lead system enhancements and workflow improvements, partnering with IT and cross-functional teams to reduce manual effort, improve data accuracy and scale AR/AP operations.
- Consolidation of accounts across entities and reporting consolidated financial reports to the management.
Leadership & Team Management Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the local team by establishing meaningful KPIs, structured coaching and performance feedback to enhance team performance.
- Assign workloads and priorities to maximize team capacity and maintain strong productivity across the local team.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the team to include procedure and policy adherence, process improvement, and quality of work output.
- Lead team meetings to answer questions and build team camaraderie.
- Provide guidance, direction, and training to finance/accounting staff to assist them in their professional development.
- Understanding Indian & U.S. work culture, including respecting holidays and fostering personal connections, is vital for team engagement.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Chartered Accountant or master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 10+ years of progressive, related experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience using Salesforce/Certinia.
- Experience in IT Services or consulting Industry with US/offshore exposure.
- Experience supporting U.S. government contracting.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSAs):
- Strong understanding of Indian Accounting Standards and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong knowledge of Indian statutory laws (GST, TDS, PF, ESI, Professional Tax, Companies Act).
- Understanding of India Payroll and Employee Benefits.
- Expertise in facilitating asynchronous communication (daily standups, video calls) to bridge time zone gaps.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information clearly and professionally.
- Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while successfully managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to drive performance improvements.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with, motivate, and support team members.
