Job Description:
The City of Chesapeake’s Economic Development Department is seeking a Summer Intern to gain hands-on experience and learn about the role local government plays in supporting business growth and community development. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in economic development, public service, and the strategies used to attract and retain businesses within a growing city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shadow members of the Economic Development team in areas including marketing, business development, and business attraction and retention efforts.
  • Attend meetings and events with members of the Economic Development team.
  • Assist with day-to-day activities and projects that support departmental initiatives.
  • Learn about programs and strategies used to promote economic growth within the City of Chesapeake.

Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for the following:
  • Providing their own transportation to and from work,
  • Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the worksite supervisor.
  • Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the worksite supervisor in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
  • Conforming to the guidelines of the internship worksite.


Required Qualifications:
Must be a college student in good academic standing who is majoring in, or a recent college graduate (i.e., within one year of graduation) in graphic design, digital marketing, learning and development or related fields.
