About This Position

Description:

The Sommelier is an hourly leadership role centered on curating and elevating the wine experience for both guests and the restaurant team. This position plays a key part in driving wine sales through thoughtful recommendations, attentive table-side service, and genuine enthusiasm for wine education. The Sommelier provides expert guidance to guests, helping them navigate the wine list and select pairings that enhance their dining experience.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Service Leader: Promote positivity, high standards, and teamwork daily; improve hospitality and efficiency across the restaurant; uphold professional conduct on and off the job.
  • Sommelier Floor Shifts: Drive wine sales, support service needs, and ensure outstanding guest experiences.
  • Staff Training: Train new hires on BTG wines, update materials, lead wine education, and foster a learning culture through regular team tastings.
  • Communication: Work with Maitre D' to keep guest notes updated on wine preferences. Alert MOD of errors, 86’s, and new additions to the wine list.
  • Wine Program: Support wine events, assist with wine selection, and contribute to list development.
  • Inventory & Invoices: Help manage wine inventory, conduct counts, log invoices, and monitor sales in Binwise.
  • Maintenance of Wine Inventory: Receive, organize, and upkeep wine storage areas weekly.
  • POS Updates: Update Toast with new wines, removals, and 86’d items as needed.
  • Reviews: Receive bi-annual performance reviews from the AGM and Wine Director.

Personal Requirements:

  • Be an ambassador for the company and maintain professionalism in and outside of work.
  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A genuine passion for locally sourced products and culinary offerings is advantageous.
  • TABC and Texas Food Handler Certificate required.

Working Conditions:

  • A typical work week for this position is 40-45 hours. Hours vary based on needs of the market and the department.
  • Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting objects up to 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, and potentially hazardous equipment is possible.
  • Familiarity with office equipment such as phones, computers, fax machines, and copiers may be required.
